Nintendo NES Classic Edition Review

https://www.cnet.com/products/nintendo-nes-classic-edition/review/

It doesn't use custom chips, it emulates the original ones.

Nintendo Classic Mini NES torn down, chips and hardware specs identified

The computing components used are more than powerful enough for them to use the same same board for an SNES game unit next holiday season or sooner by simply switching out the game ROM code.

They've had these for sale at my local Staples store for a few weeks now.

There's a shortage of units. There are 112 sellers of new units on Amazon and none are sold BY Amazon. Minimum price there: $199. Then there are the following eBay auctions. Looks like people just bought up all of the initial release to TRY to re-sell at insane prices:

17,567 results for nes classic edition search in game console category:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...0.Xnes+classic.TRS0&_nkw=nes+classic&_sacat=0

And some people are buying them at those prices. The following link leads to completed listings. The top price of a completed auction that I see - $245.92:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/Video-Game-...gn=-1&saslc=1&_salic=1&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=50

This looks like a fun unit, but even the actual $60 retail is a bit high for it IMO.

Those people paying $200+ are going to feel like idiots when another batch is released before Christmas.

I snagged one on release day, I then proceeded to take it apart and currently working on putting a raspberry pi computer inside to run tons of systems.

And when all of the many people who bought one or more to hoard and then sell at ridiculous prices realize that there aren't as many stupid people who will buy at those prices as they thought there'd be and have to sell what they have. As I've pointed out before, because the electronics are much more powerful than required for NES emulation, we can probably expect a Classic SNES console at some point in the future.
