First fit of all the pieces. Pretty raggedy test prints. Lots of changes to make.
Nike Ajax first all test print.jpg

I just printed the radar and guide fins in place on the nose cone - in the final version they'll be printed separately, perhaps sla prints.

That's the South Dakota museum right? I was stationed at Ellsworth in the '70's. I was asleep a block and a half away from the total washout of the Rapid City flood.

That's a beautiful example of an Ajax. Might take you up on that offer. I recall that there's an AGM-28 Hound Dog there too that looks really nice. That's always been tempting. BTW I've scraped your picture for my collection.

All of my Nike Ajax data is here, in a dropbox folder. No guarantees that link won't change, I'm still organizing things there. Any additions are welcome.

The link is no longer working. Could you re-establish the link? I would like to redo the model in SolidWorks.

Thanks,

Keith

I let my paid Dropbox account expire a few months ago. Let me get it sorted out and I'll get a link up hopefully in a few days. I gotta renew my SW license sometime too.

well...what to say

this material is made as semi-render, something like technical drawning document in 3D.

it is made for Slovenian magazine TIM, Slovenia, Europe, and it will be published in june 2016.

it will be published as two A2 format extreme detailing blueprint (sorry, just low-fi resolution here), plus A4 or two A4 paint

schemes, dont know yet (another one in progress).

we have idea to publish not just this blueprint but other as well, in book, maybe 200 pages maybe 500 with pictures and blueprints in

extreme high "resolution" . it means, with all details, as much were possible, in 90 percent in so high detailed blueprints, that

details will be impossible to remake in scale, let to say 1:10

the edition?... it depends of people who are interested for, probably max 200 copies. i dont know if i have rights to publish this here

on forum. but if you are interesting, you can help.

the list of rockets made up to today ( and is still growing):

(EXTREME HIGH DETAILED!) - IN MOST CASES WITH SCREWS AND RIVETS WITH DIMENSIONS

mostly on A2 format blueprints

The intention is to publish blueprints that were never realised, or better versions of realised blueprints

TERRAPIN (USA) - as i know, most precise work + Deacon motor study 3 versions

PP-8 (ex YUGOSLAVIA) anti hail rocket, extreme detailed + colors, by hand measured + original drawings ,never published, all destroyed,

dont in use anymore

POGO + POGO-HI (USA) - most possible detailed + colors

TG-10 (ex Yugoslavia anti hail rocket) - extremely high detailed blueprint + colors, by hand measured + original drawings ,never

published, all destroyed, dont in use anymore

MAXUS-9 (Europe) - divided in two editions 2x A2 blueprint + A3 colors

R -262 M-87 ORKAN - ex Yugoslavia top secret rocket, "recreated" original dimensions with help of some people, cannot say who, it is

still top secret in some ways

GENIE MB-1 (USA) - extremely high detailed blueprint on 7x A2 blueprints, every screw with dimensions, blueprints displaced in two

issues of TIM magazine (with extreme help and thanks to TIM)

NIKE SMOKE - never detailed as here. even weld dimensions.

NACA RM-10 - very obscure rocket, done as best it can be

SAKO 4_ ex Yugoslavia antihail, last produced in early 80s, extreme detailed + color photos

SAKO 6_ as above + color photos

M-68_ first YUGOSLAVIA anti hail, extreme high detailed + color photos

version of other color schemes probably in next issue of TIM

slovenian magazine for modellers:

Zveza za tehnično kulturo Slovenije

Zaloška 65

1000 Ljubljana

Slovenia

That all sounds wonderful. I've been to the TIM magazine website and I hope I can figure out how to order a copy when it is published. You say: "it will be published in june 2016. " I'm assuming that is an error, and that it will be in 2020 or 2021 perhaps?

The book would also be very popular here. I'm sure it would sell many copies in the United States. Please keep us informed of your progress.

And welcome to our forum!

For the available tube combinations, the first 'Scale' column is the scale determined by the Nike booster tube, with all scale error then in the Ajax tube. Using the 'adjusted scale' column, I can adjust the scale slightly to distribute the error between the Nike and Ajax. In most cases, the error can be made less than 1% using common body tubes.

The forum doesn't seem to preserve spreadsheet formatting very well; my worksheet looks better than this.

Just doodling, thinking about a little 13mm model 1/30 scale.

Ok, so noodling around a bit more, I found a better match of standard tube diameters for a small Nike-Ajax. Odd ones though, a BT-4+ for the Ajax, and an ST6 for the Nike; comes out to a 1/25 scale. Looks like it would fly nicely on an A10T-3. I don't think I'd try it on any of the other motors. Single-stage only.

I've included the OpenRocket file and the Excel spreadsheet that I used to scale all the dimensions. It's intended for the nosecone/forward cone/guide fins/radar fins to be 3D printed as a single unit. Likewise, the Ajax aft tailcone/interstage/Nike forward flange is to also be a single printed unit. Probably need a bit more nose weight. All dimensions are off of the Alway drawing, and I didn't try to do anything with the Ajax tunnels in OpenRocket, but of course, they would be added to the model.

BTW, the spreadsheet will be handy for figuring any other scales too. I'll probably be adding quite a bit to it.

After much thrashing about, it looks like my Nike data is on Google Drive. The following links should work:

Nike Hercules Scale Data
Nike Ajax Scale Data

While I may still update the data under those links, the folder links should be stable at least for the next year.
Do you still have Nike Hercules data available? Just found this while looking for Ajax data.

Looks to me like that Ajax link still works. It appears that I need to update the Hercules link.
