The "Discover Space with Snoopy" Happy Meal, which launched at McDonald's restaurants across the United States on Tuesday (Aug. 20) and extends through September, features Charles Schulz's comic strip dog in his persona as the "world famous astronaut" and "the first beagle on the moon." Produced in collaboration with NASA, the promotion builds upon the space agency's recent agreement with Peanuts Worldwide to use Snoopy to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education....

noopy's relationship with NASA dates back more than 50 years. A NASA mascot since 1968, Snoopy and Charlie Brown were the namesakes of the Apollo 10 spacecraft and NASA astronauts bestow the "Silver Snoopy" award to workers for outstanding achievements related to human flight safety or mission success.

For the grown-ups, a book in which Snoopy and the Red Baron have a zero G laser death duel.

And, some of you may have heard the story, but Mike Massimino often tells the story about when he was about 10 years old. About the time of the Apollo missions, he had a stuffed Snoopy with a space suit helmet that was "Astronaut Snoopy" that had many adventures with the young future astronaut. That stuffed Snoopy went to space and lived with Mike on the ISS and is now on loan to the Smithsonian. Mike emphasizes that *his* Snoopy still belongs to him and is only *on loan* to the Smithsonian.
