Hi all,

I've been lurking on the forums for about a week before registering today. I guess you could say I'm a Re-BAR (Re-Born-Again Rocketeer) as this is my third time starting the hobby. I began back in the 1960s through the early 1970s. I started again in the late 1990s for a short period of time. After recovering my rockets from storage a couple of weeks ago, and my six-year-old daughter showing some interest I decided to get back into the hobby again. During the 1990s I was a NAR member and I plan on renewing my membership again after the new year.

I've checked the NAR website, and I didn't find any clubs near where I live in San Angelo, Texas. Near being defined as less than a two hour drive, as I have discovered that most natives here think nothing of the 4-5 hour drive to Dallas. :D That being said, if there are any on the forum who live in or around San Angelo I would enjoy meeting you sometime. For the time being I will also be limiting my rocketry to the low power rockets as my choice of launch sites is limited.

I have also been going to compile a list of rockets I have owned over the years, but I am having problems remembering all of them. Are there any sources on the web or via members of the forum of Estes kits available during the 1960s through the early 1970s? The only rockets I can remember having at the moment are the Interceptor, Alpha III, and a scale Saturn (1B?) which was a cluster rocket. If there were a list of rockets somewhere or even better graphics I'm sure it would help jog my memory.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Kent, K5KNT

These guys already hit the two big ones I know of. Welcome on board!

As noted in the 1st response...you don't LIKE that site, eh sand? :p

Thanks to everyone for the quick replies!!

I went to JimZ's site first and that was FANTASTIC! Not only did I find all the rockets I could remember for sure as having I downloaded the PDFs!

If anyone is interested, here are the rockets I have owned or currently own:

As a youngster: (All Estes Products) Scout, Interceptor, Saturn 1B, Streak, Phantom (BT-50) Falcon, Alpha III.

As A BAR: (All Estes unless otherwise noted) Mongoose, Airwalker, Bull Pup 12D, Quark*, Sidewinder (partially assembled) and a Quest Tomahawk yet to be assembled (my project over the hollidays).

* I lost the Quark on a launch last Saturday. I now remember why I didn't like small rockets.

Thanks again for the replies and I'm looking forward to enjoying this hobby again.

Always glad to see another re-bar. I did it as a kid/teen, pretty much quit (only a few sparse flights) through the college years, started with my son (BAR), stopped when he lost interest I got busy(ER), then became a re-bar after hearing of HPR.

I'd like to use the term re-bar myself, but I'd get confused with Rebar Rocketry.

This is a great place to learn ! and I noticed you said your daughter is interested, this is one of the reasons I am a BAR, keep your daughter moving foward in rocketry it pay's off big time in Math and Science class later in life when a large portion of girls lose intrest in science.
Here is my daughter and her latest project
Yes she did about 90% of the construction herself!

In addition to JimZ's site, you might check out the comprehensive Estes kit list hosted by Ye Olde Rocket Shoppe:

https://www.rocketshoppe.com/info/estes_expanded_kit_list.htm

This list includes links to the scanned plans (if they are availabe, on 4 different sites - including JimZ's) as well as links to the scanned image of their first appearance in an Estes catalog.

Welcome aboard!

Man, you're like right smack dead center Tejas.

There's groups in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Waco Midland and Amarillo, as well as DFW. But you're not close to *anything*.

I suggest you check out the Yahoo group THPRA-General (Texas High Power Rocketry Association). There's people from all over the state in it, some maybe closer than the clubs themselves.

Texas Launch calendar: https://www.texaslaunchcalendar.org/

It has a link to all the clubs as well as their launches.

what??? no wizard??? i thought that was like...the universal entry rocket!!! lol. i've had 2 quarks, lost 1. both launched on A10's. thats a BULLET. lol

welcome to the forum.

Yep. That seems to be San Angelo's claim to fame. Not being a native Texan, I'm still trying to figure out how they call it "West Texas".:)

Midland would most likely be the closest. I hate to admit it, but I haven't traveled much in the state yet. We do have some friends in San Antonio, so I guess we could arrange a visit there on one of the launch weekends. Thanks for the information.

West Texas is El Paso....

That's where I and at least one other TRFer came up. Me, I faced a different culture shock a while back when I moved to New England. I live in a state smaller than the county I grew up in.

BTW, rocketeers are a weird bunch. 2 hours for a drive is nothing. 4 hours is an annoyance. Heck there is a bunch of us going to freaking Wisconson in March! I doubt it gets above freezing there before July....

Go for broke, form a club. I bet in the area where you live, you can find some comerades.

Sometimes this forum is so fast! After I read the the thread title, I went to respond and you all had said everthing I had in my melon and more already........

Anyhow, welcome to TRF ksknt! You'll love this place.
