I recently read Howard Pyle's Robin Hood, written in the 19th century. The language is so difficult that I constantly had to look words up, and jot them down so that I wouldn't forget. Sentences like, "And Robin saith, Marry! Would that thou wot in which way yon Sheriff didst travail, that I might smite him upon the pate."
What blew my mind is that Pyle wrote this for EIGHTH GRADERS.
We did Shakespeare in the 9th grade back in the day. And I'm not that old...
Anyway, as a very recent BAR, I am very thankful for the E2X level. I got a starter kit for my son thinking, "this is gonna be easy, we could handle a skill one or two with no problem..." It was the perfect starting point for me and my son. I have little to no modeling skill, and so my son has no one to learn from. I've just ordered his first level 1 kit, and he's excited about building on his own. Anyway, I think the varied skill levels meet a need.
