Need Rocket Plans

Hey Everyone . . . my first post on this forum, but an intriguing questions nonetheless.

I've built a number of rockets so far but, I'd like to start scratch building. Does anyone on this board make, or know of where I can get some plans for Titan, Atlas, etc?

Specifically, I'd like to build on other people's successes and find out what type of nose/tail cones, tubes, chutes, etc. to use.

you coould try a book by Peter Alway called "Rockets of the world, those rockets might be in there. You could also search this forum, by clicking on search in the upper right. I hope this helps

There have been a few sport scale model rocket kits offered over the years by companies like Estes, but with those big, ugly fin units added to the bottom for in-flight stability, they never appealed much to me.

I have seen photos somewhere of a beautiful Atlas model, but with the odd three-motor base, that subject is a bit beyond many modelers. I don't recall seeing too many model kits of any form of Atlas, maybe someone else can jump in here and help.

P.P.S. I don't know if you are interested in this sort of thing, but you might have some luck finding 'paper' models that could be adapted to model rocketry. Try websites like

(this particular one has lots of Delta launch vehicle variants, but you will get the general idea)
You could scale one of these paper models to the right size to laminate onto an existing BT, or you could adapt the paper model to include a smaller BT running through the middle to hold motor, chute, etc?

Many of those web sites are very helpful and will be great resources! I'm looking forward to spending the winter up here on a few projects.

Just out of curiosity, without searching for each rocket individually, is there another website out there with a "clone" list; that is, with tube numbers, engine/mount recommendations, etc.?

Well, not really but, this is the best place to start.

Settle on a specific model. Then ask a specific question here.

Chances are someone here has built it already and knows what to use and is more than happy to share.

The other place to look and I do recommend you join is the yahoo scalerock group.

I have created some Rocsim 'Sport Scale' designs for a few rockets listed in ROTW. I will attach a few...

These are working designs for boilerplates, some have enlarged fins for stability.

If you want to build scale models, it is best to learn how to turn your own nosecones and build paper transitions.

A case in point is the Hermes RV-A10:

Here is a sim of the Spartan.... This is the real missile that the ESTES Nike X was based on. Note tha the forward most 'warhead' fins have been slightly reduced to allow stable flight.:

for some reason my rocsim has a fatal error when I try to open this!!!! Any ideas???
