NARAM-50 Fly-It/Take-It Event

We've all seen, and many of us have participated in Make-it/Take-it events in the past. Participants go to an event, build a simple rocket kit, then go home. Maybe the rocket flies at a future launch, maybe it gets put on a shelf, maybe it even gets tossed out. We want to provide an event that will at least get people flying model rockets, and hopefully keep them flying!

What is a Fly-it/Take-it?
An activity to involve young people and first-time flyers of all ages at NARAM-50 by giving them a chance to fly a rocket for free, and then keep the rocket.

When is it?
On Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27 from 9AM until 2PM, participants will be able to come to the tables at the NARAM-50 field where a slecetion of model rockets will be displayed and choose one of their liking. They will be provided with a rocket engine, chute wadding and assistance with prepping the rocket. They can then to go to the sport range and fly their rocket. Additional flights can be made on their own.

Who can participate?
Participants should be first time flyers OR under 14 years old (13 or less at time of event).

Where do these rockets come from?
NAR Sections are asked to build between six and twelve rockets. Sections are encouraged to personalize or customize the rockets that they build. Patriotic, themed or section-specific markings are encouraged! Sections may want to ask local hobby shops or vendors that attend NARAM for donations of kits or parts for this event. We are hoping to be able to support up to 120 first time launches.

What sort of rockets are we looking for?
They can be any rocket: kit, scratch-built or RTF. We only ask that they must fly on a single 18mm black-powder rocket engine. A recovery device must be included (as needed) and can be any method, but complex designs (such as competition helicopters) are not recommended.
First flight engines will be provided by donation from Tom Ha.

What's the deadline for sections to send in rockets for the event?
NAR Sections need to have rockets delivered by June 1, 2008. Deliver to NARTS at P.O. Box 111, Mount Holly Springs, PA 17065. Shipments requiring a street address can ship to 512 Chestnut Street, same city/state/zip. Deliveries of built rockets can be made to the NARTS tables at TARC.
Rockets not used for this event will be offered to the organizers of NARAM 51.
