Back in July when Hobby Lobby had their 50% off sale, powerburner got me a Estes 4" V-2 kit (No HL is South Carolina) It has been sitting in my office/rocket room ever since.......

Well, I was waiting for a shipment from Commonwealth so I can continue with my 3X Estes Bullput..... I was also waiting for some epoxy to dry on my LOC Expeditor........

So what should I do while I am waiting........Start my V-2 upgrade project.......

Yes I am going to over-build it........... Overkill should be my middle name........ So here goes......... 29mm motor mount, 1/8" birchwood centering rings, nylon chute and composite matterial fins are the planned upgrades........

First off I rough cut the fins out of a honeycomb composite matterial......... I guy from our club sold it to me........

Then I cut out the centering rings...... I used the fin stock that I was suppost to use for my Expeditor....... 1/8" birchwood

Here's a pic of the aft end almost done......... Aft centering ring, motor tube and middle centering ring installed in the boattail......

Next I drilled two holes in the top centering ring and put the shock cord through...........

And finally tonight I worked on the launch lugs........... Here's what I made my Launch lugs from....................

Sweet:)
looks like its coming along nicely
great idea for the launch lugs:)

You know, I am now thinking about the paint job....... Is there a pattern or mask available on-line or on someone's computer?

I started to put the fins on this morning and had a question......... What kind of adhesive should I use? (on the plastic boattail)

In the past I have seen 5 min epoxy not adhere well on plastic.......

I just got some plastic epoxy.........Will this do the trick (remember I am overbuilding it and want strength) I don't know the exact name for the fin matterial......... It's a honeycomb composite matterial......

Thanks

I have attached the body tube to the tailcone and epoxied the launch lugs on.........

It's starting to really look like a V-2

I too have the Estes V2, and the paint scheme I would like to try, is this scheme from the Canadian X-Prize contenders...Very vibrant.

Johnnie,

I posted it the other day but I'll post it here.

You might need this then.

This is from the SMASH newsletter. Notice that the body is streched a little. You might want to get some BT-101 from Totally Tubular and make your a little longer to be more scale.

Thanks Sandman,

I had planned on 29mm'ing the Bird, and using some Aerotech 4" tubing, as the fit is real nice. That would let me have the extra length needed to fit the drawing you posted. The only problem is the tubing is a little wider than the vacu-form boat-tail and N-cone. So maybe your idea of the BT-101 would be better...

I will keep with the scale fins, as I would never be able to scale these otherwise w/ all the details. Not sure when I will start on it, but it will be cool when done.

thanks again

Johnnie; Very nice...... I look forward to seeing you start the project........

Sandman; can you pull similar plans out of your hat for a the black and yellow paint job?

Sandman, now really, if you can't do any better than that...oh wait you did.

great sites, should be able to pull a skin off any one of them...

Nice websites guys......... Thanks........ The problem now is deciding how to paint it........ I might just have to build several, that way I can use more of these neat ideas........ I still think I will go with the black and yellow.........

Huh...nobody seems to like the "Buy Bonds" paint scheme.

sandman

...I like it sandman, at least it did not have a MceeDees emblem on it, or an add for Viagra...:D

I have printed off all the skins I like, I may have to buy another V2 to build that A9/A10 creation.

Thanks Sandman.

Rocketmaniac... the black and yellow was my choice too. There's alot of great designs out there...one might have to build a V2 "fleet". ;)

Yellow and Black V2

Well, it's ONLY been 10 months since I worked on this project. I am about done. Motor Retainer is the last thing I need to do ......

Here is what she looks like........ First here is the website that I got the paint scheme from....

I decided to do Number 2 from the White Sands Proving Grounds tests.

The yellow is my first attempt for my new airbrush.

could it hold up to a H220;):)

The H220 uses the 29/240 case right? I think the 29/180 is about the biggest I will try. (for now at least):D
