My club is having a friendly competition, a "Sounding Rocket Sendoff". I selected this ASP WAC Corporal with Tiny Tim booster kit from Apogee. It was fun building a two stage. Anxious to see it fly. Competition is scheduled for April 16. Would be nice if the weather cooperates.
I'll post a picture after I get the paint on it.

The first picture didn't include the "staging tube" that the instructions call for before flight
You can also fly it without the staging tube. I have two flights in mine now (24mm Tiny Tim / 18mm WAC) and in both instances the WAC motor lit without an issue.

The staging tube may help with limiting the amount of scorching that the top of the Tiny Tim booster and those wooden dowels that are part of the interstage coupler experience. I had to rebuild the paper cone at the top of the Tiny Tim booster after the first flight, it was more than a bit singed (and yes I had soaked it with CA per the instructions). The rebuild uses a layer of 3/4 oz fiberglass cloth to try and make it a bit more flame resistant...

Be sure to check the fit of the booster around the WAC motor tube after each flight, I've found that the black powder residue can make the slip-fit, less so.

Hopefully there’s good weather and a good turnout for the April 16 launch - if we weren’t going to be gone on vacation I’d have brought every sounding rocket I have!

I'm looking forward to some good weather, I'd like to bring my grandson along (he's 2) I'm sure he'll have a blast. (Pun intended)

I've got about a dozen-plus flights on mine (18mm to 18mm), never used the "staging tube". Besides, it looks really cool when it stages!!
One of my top ten favorite fliers.

What’s the motor plan for sustainer?
I'm following the recommendations on the instructions. I currently have some C6-0's, I'm going to check a local place for B6-0's for the booster. Maybe the A8-3 or A8-5? I also have some B6-6 and C6-7 to try if it's not too windy.

IMO go with lowest recommended motors (especially for sustainer) for first flight, especially if you want a second one. If you can’t find an A8-5, the three is okay, you can even adapt down to an A10-3T.

The main cool factor for staging IS the STAGING. It’s neat to see one motor light another motor on the fly. Extra 3 or 4 seconds trying to track a sustainer smoke trail by going big on sustainer motor doesn’t add much to the flight (to me), and nearly always makes for a longer recovery trek and sometimes no recovery at all.

Have a great flight!

With the Boosted Bertha, I find the B6-0 works better because the rocket tends to arc over on the C6-0 when the sustainer ignites. The initial launch was a disaster because it cruise missiled into a tree and cracked the NC. Coincidently, we found my old Mini Fat Boy the same day in another tree with exactly the same NC so swapped it out.

The Foam primmer I ordered came in. I sprayed a 6" styrafoam ball. I have another odd idea. Went over to BMS to pick up an order. Talked to Bill for about half an hour. He told me he is getting 1000 BT60 tubes soon. He orders huge quantities. He has over 7000 3" plastic nose cones. Bins and bins of balsa nose cones and other parts. I also placed an order with Apogee. Ordered some clear tubes and some 4" BT's. BMS only goes up to 3". This morning I took 20 rockets to our storage unit. As I was putting them in it dawned on me that I now had 20 more nose cones to use. Thought about flying. It snowed Monday and Sunday it is supposed to be 82. Just Nuts. But warm and no wind for a few days is fine by me. Have to fly something.

I'm still waiting for the tree to give back the last FS Mini that Russ gave me. It's been hanging inside a payload section for the past 4 months.
I have a Mini I could fit in also a PerfectFlight FireFly. I recently built an Eggfinder Ion but I don't see any way to get it to fit with the 400mAh battery and some sort of protection.

Nice build, I've seen that kit fly, and it really gets up there with a D12-0 booster - I'd recommend a C11-0 on the first flight.
