My daughter turned 10 today and she got a rocket.

Great to see another young person getting into this great hobby.
Teach her well.....

Neat that your daughter wants to join you in Rocketry. Happy Birthday to her.

We need photos of her holding that finished rocket or it never happened and she doesn't exist. ;)

Awesome times. I look forward to having a day like yous with my granddaughter.

Now if we could just find time to do the build. <sigh> Her birthday party is Saturday, her brother's is next Saturday, then we have something on the 11th, my wife's birthday on the 18th, then a vacation. Sundays are mostly full with church stuff. I can't get my Saturn V built or start on my Performer 200, either.

My son got into rockets when he was very young as well. He never built many of them but he flew a lot, even getting a mention for the most flights at an LDRS. (I think it was Kansas or Amarillo.) He ended up going into Aerospace Engineering and now works for SpaceX as a test engineer for the Merlin 1D engines.

You never know how what we do with them as kids will influence them as adults. Good luck getting it built and flown.

Tony

My son may be heading that way as well. Loves rockets and astronomy, but he's only 7, and who knows where life will lead him? My daughter is 10, but she loves horses so much that her goal is to own an animal farm of some kind. We keep telling her that the best way to do that is to get a good tech job and save her money till she can buy a farm. We'll see.

That's just wonderful John..
Good for you,, and her, lol..

Teddy

My daughter is the sole reason I became a BAR - We went from rtf Estes at the park to me attempting my L-2 soon with a 4inch 54mm glass build.
Enjoy the ride my friend and , hats off for spending quality time with your little girl, trust me when I say- it goes by very very quickly- Enjoy the ride

Ya done good, John! If only more parents encouraged their children...I knew a guy who was into rocketry---mostly model and mid-power. His son, around 10, was extremely interested and attended launches with dad...but for some inexplicable reason, dad barely let his son participate. Even forbade him to spend his allowance on rockets! I don't know what happened to the son...but I wouldn't be surprised to see him in business or law or other job that has nothing to do with science. Very sad to see.

Okay, this weekend we finally found time to get her going. She pretty much built it herself, with me only helping out with basic newb stuff. She is extremely proud.

Yes, that's a splint on her right hand where she broke her pinky. :(

When my 10 year old received his Tripoli membership card and binder in the mail, he was over the top thrilled at the surprise. He wears the lanyard proudly at all launches.

She should be proud, that's a first class looking job. All the more impressive considering that she was wounded at the time!

Heh. We were at a graduation party and some people were tossing a football around in the yard. She made a bad catch and jammed it. I didn't think it was broken until it turned purple the next day. X-ray confirmed. Yeesh.

Lord willing, she'll be out there Saturday at the sod farm to launch it. I'll try to get pics or a video.
