So on a I-180: it went 1,874ft, 341fps (232mph) 10.7 seconds to accent, drogue brought it down at 67.4fps, main deployed at 347ft, brought it down at 19.667fps after 53 seconds.

I’d be slightly worried about that nozzle getting bent. Aluminum is a soft metal.

Well done Buddy ... from concept, to kit build and your proof of flight.

I commend you Buddy for communicating and sharing your vision and journey to bring the Miss Riley rocket to our forum flyers. I'm looking forward to purchasing the complete package when you have it ready to sell.

That would only be an issue of your recover less than ideal and you will probably have more to worry about than a bent nozzle.

Me and SC Precision worked really hard on this from getting it the thinnest and lightest possible, but still having it the strongest to withstand damage. I think we both did an amazing job and this nozzle is very strong to say the least. My av bay weighs around 14oz ready to go, most will weigh a little less, so must people will land in the 15-19fps range, all more than soft enough. My nozzle looks perfect after flight, perfectly clean without damage.

Buddy this is your movie, I am just happy to be part of the cast is all!

INSTANT collectors item Buddy!
Dont worry about the price some guy.
Worry IF you make it on the list in time.
Never buy a boat if youre concerned with the price of gas.

We are excited to announce the release of our Miss Riley Fiberglass Rocket Kits now for purchase on our website! The kits are 55” tall, 2.64” Diameter with a 38mm MMT and have a Aluminum Billet Machined Nozzle, just like the original ones. Our kits are a 2/3rd Scale version of the original ones featured in the movie October Sky, exactly 20 years ago! Each kit is signed by Homer Hickam and Ky Michaelson on a Certificate of Authenticity and is limited to 100 kits only that will ever be made. There is also a recovery package available for these kits that include everything you’d need to safely recover the rocket as well as a Altimeter Bay Package that is 3D printed. On our website we have detailed instructions on how to build this kit along with a downloadable Open Rocket Sim file.

Check them out here before they sell out: https://the-rocketman.com/miss-riley/

Purchase made. Awesome product, obviously a lot of work put into it to make it so. Congratulations, Buddy, on both the rocket and the successful venture. I'm sure there will be many more to follow.

P.S. Website looks great!

I ordered mine today as well. Buddy called me up to talk about the electronics and battery selection I was going to use and helpful with a few other questions I had about the kit.

I live in Plymouth Buddy if you want help let me know when and where, save shipping on my kit as well if you want.

I was looking for a nice fiber glass kit about this size with a 38mm mmt.

The test flight looked perfect, nice recovery on a sharp looking chute.

I will definitely keep you in the loop, it’d be amazing if you could spend a few hours and help me assemble all the kits in boxes. So far we have 6 folks at our field that bought the kit, what’s your thoughts on a drag race?

Well no, Brush Script is not the closest thing to Ky's original lettering, there are dozens of fonts based on the cursive that we were all taught in third grade, and many of them are free. But more importantly, Brush Script is nasty and using it misses the beautiful connection that Ky's hand-written cursive had to the Miss Riley character - she was an elementary teacher and the Miss Riley on the rocket looks like what Homer would have written using the elementary school cursive that she had taught him. I'm going to match Ky's cursive, redrawing it in Illustrator and sending the file to sticker shock. I'll post the file in case anyone else wants to use it.

Yes, I would love a copy of the file. I'm planning to build a low power rocketry Miss Riley
