Am I right in thinking that the Mini Fat Boy would be the kit to use to make Goonies closer to the original for 13mm mounts? It's a BT-60 with the same nose cone as the Baby Bertha, right?

If I'm right, would 13mm be underpowered for a goony? I built a few stock ones back in the day but I don't remember how they flew back then.

Nah, they fly perfectly fine with the 13mm motors. Especially great if you fly from a small field.

Around here I can pick up Baby Bertha kits for $10.99 at Hobby Lobby (before discount) and a MFB is $12.99, I can cut the tube down and save $2.00 on every kit.

True, but I'm asking specifically about the Mini Fat Boy having the correct engine mount of the original Goonies. If I buy the Baby Bertha I'd still have to change the engine tube to 13MM, so I'd not end up saving anything. I saw them at HL too and was surprised that the MFB would be more than the BB since it's smaller and has smaller engine components.

yes a MFB has a 13mm mount, and if you're not too picky you could use the bt60 w/o cutting(MFB uses a 5.75" long tube, the goonies used a 5" long tube). it does take a bit of doing to fold the chute small enough to fit and still have it open prior to landing:).
