min Bomarc build

I'm very happy with the recent BMS clone of the mini Bomarc.

Nice packaging.

Laying out the parts, you notice that there is one extra
part not listed on JIMZ website. It's a 1/16 basswood strip. There is a note,
(not on the instructions), telling you to glue the strip to the bottom of the
3/16 half round dowel. This forms the tunnel on the top of the model. When
removing the laser cut fins from the balsa sheet, there are two pieces that
have a small extra 'tab' on them. You are instructed to cut these tabs off.

The reason for my nose cone being all wrapped up in thread, I had a small problem.
The mini Bomarc needs a fair amount of nose weight to be stable. This is included in the form of birdshot that needs gluing into the drilled out nosecone.
I rammed the shot/glue mix a bit too hard and split the nosecone.
I fixed that by wrapping the nosecone very tightly with thread untill the glue
dried. Using FnF you can't even tell that the nose was broken.

After assembling the motor mount, and gluing it in the body, I used the marking
guide for the placement of the wings and ramjets.

While that was laying on a flat surface, I worked on the tunnel itself. The bass
strip is wider than the 3/16 half dowel. After the glue is dried I used FnF to
smooth out the transition between the two pieces. Then I shaped the ends
to conform to the cutout on the tail fin.

Lastly I glued the tunnel, ramjets, and tail onto the model.

All that's left is painting.

I really enjoyed this build just like all the other Clone of the Month rockets. So far I haven't missed one yet.

I got mine built(well, one of three I got)..LOL..Just waiting for 'motivation' to paint it..And to paint the 30+ year old original I still have!

What size parachute did you guys use on your builds? I can't seem to find any reference on what the original size was.

I haven't flown mine yet but I have a standard Semroc 12 inch plastic chute in mine.

FWIW, I have found that mine flies best on the A10-3T.

13mm...But, you could leave out the motor mount and fly it min diameter on 18mm.Just expect a long walk for recovery!

You would also need more nose weight to fly it on 18mm motors (especially C6s).

Bomarc has been one of my favorite scale subjects for many years.
I've had a bunch of them since the early days. my first Mini Bomarc was done in the Canadian Airforce grey/white colors but I've just never liked the look nearly as much as the Prototype and Test rounds in Black/white & silver.
