Gentlemen, I will be having a birthday this week (big 4-0) and thought I would treat myself to a Level 3 capable kit. I'm a BSD fan and was considering the 5.5" Horizon, if I can find it in stock anywhere. I would love a 6" Talon but can't justify the cost. What are your opnions?

Hey fellow Crisis-er. I began thinking about my Level 3 also. I'm leaning towards the Smoking Rocket 7.5 Nike Smoke.

If the BSD web site is down then you may have to go to Giant Leap and buy the pieces seperately. I have a RocSim of the 5.5 Horizon if you need it for parts sizing?

The BSD Horizon 5.5 should be a good L3 cert choice as long as you have plenty of room to fly it (I'm guessing somewhere around 8K-10K on a small M). BSD definitely makes great kits & I bet that big Horizon i no exception...

OTOH, you might want to check out the Polecat Aerospace kits, like the 10" Thumper or V2. Those kits run about as much as the Horizon 5.5.

HTH,

Thanks Guys, Eric - Thanks, I may email you later if I can't find a kit. I'm going to check out the smokin rockets web site now, good luck with your level 3. Lance - I'll rethink the 10" thumper hmmm...I was concerned about 10K+ altitudes as well, maybe I'll visit you guys up there sometime, we have 600 acre sod farm here in SFL but can only use a portion of it depending on what's growing. Plenty of room for dual deployment. Still undecided...

Doing a quick sim with an M1315 I showed 12,296 feet with the Horizon. Wow, that is twice as high as anything I've flown.

I like the Horizon also, check out what I did with one of the 4" kits:

Best flight was on 6 G-80's and an H210R to about 4500'

Silly me for not seeing where you're from Peter! I've never been to Tripoli WPB, but several guys from my club have been down there. I'll get there one of these days... (IIRC, a couple of months ago Gary Dahlke lost his Magnum in the sugar cane field after launching it on a K660... :( ) I've seen pictures of the site. OMG. Sod farm paradise. :D

Good luck when the time comes with the L3 cert ;)
