Has anybody heard about this? I'm hoping it's good. I'm really hoping they re-release all the toys.

I had those, they were great. I also had the GI Joe Mercury astronaut and capsule.

I still have mine.

A few years ago, I had a friend who was an avid Joe collector, he has since moved away. One day he came over to see my Joe astronaut, it was one of the pieces he didn’t have. I took him over to a display case where Joe was at the time. When he looked in the case, he almost recoiled in horror.

There was the Mercury capsule sitting on a little sand diorama. Joe was standing next to it, wearing his foil space suit. That much was okay, but the non-Joe article also in the display was simply sacrilege.

Also displayed with the capsule, and facing Joe was an I Dream of Jeannie doll I had picked up at a garage sale. The site of Jeannie was just more than he could stand. I had blasphemed the name of Joe to replicate the first episode and opening credits of a 60’s sitcom.

I had the MMM with white space suit. I got it for Christmas at my grandmothers and it stayed down there for me and the other grandkids and eventually great and great-great grandkids to play with for 20 years. The wires eventually broke and he finally lost some limbs and was discarded, but I think I still have the helmet somewhere. I have the G.I. Joe Mercury astronaut, but not the capsule. :( I do have the Atomic City capsule, though.

I was a huge MMM fan. Had the Moon Base, Crawler, and the Re-entry Glider. Even had a Captain Lazer figure. Wish I still had them. I would gladly see the movie.

Had one of them as well. Too many splash-downs in the pool caused the suit to dissolve. I always look for the capsule in the background of Eric Forman's bedroom on "That '70s Show."

I too had the MoonBase and Crawler, but not the glider. WHo was Captain Lazer?

Also, does anyone remember a Purple alien figurine with a green head that had a tool or weapon of some sort that shot a string out the front when you blew on the hose in the back?

Maybe I imagined that....

YES!!!
But the foil on the spacesuit didn't last.
Good transition into the Gemini program and the white suits.

My GI joe's didn't survive the test of time and combat.

Wm.

Yep, I had one of those too. Had like an exposed brain on top of its head?

Sadly all they're all bygone relics of my youth. :(

I thought about picking up a couple off ebay but couldn't figure out how to explain buying dolls to my wife.

Edit: "When Mattel executives Tim Kilpin and Barry Waldo came to Playtone for a meeting, they brought an arsenal of the Matt Mason figures. Hanks came armed with his own."

Tom Hanks... singlehandedly trying to save the US Space Program. Ya gotta love him. :D

Just me and my little brother playing MMM on the dirt pile in the back yard.

You know what a dirt pile is too? People look at me funny when I talk about the good old days in the dirt pile. They had fancy schmanzy sand boxes.

What they don't know is the dirt pile was much better than sand. :D

I can one-up that - we had a creek :D

We had dirt piles, cow pastures, cotton fields, lots of sharp pointy farm machinery to play on, etc... (and we somehow survived!)

Here's part of what we had (for those of us who never really grew up)...

I never had these toys growing up; guess it was before my time (born 71) but they ARE way kewl...

Looks like an interesting movie (course I'm also waiting for a "Team America II" LOL:) or "UFO" movie... (thanks MIKUS for hooking me on that-- you have my wife's UNDYING GRATITUDE for that as well... )

Later! OL JR :)

My favorite MMM story involves this piece: https://www.wildtoys.com/MMMPage/MattelPlaysets/6340.asp
It was a Christmas present just about the time that the whole MMM thing went bust. Played with it all day Christmas day, then took it outside to play up the street with some of the other neighborhood kids. It was a bright, sunny day, but with sub-20 degree temps. At some point it occurred to me that it would be cool to have the laser cannon get hit by an asteroid. (A bowling ball-sized ice chunk on the side of Bear's driveway.) Sub-freezing temps + brittle plastic = a momentarily cool show, but a completely unrepairable laser cannon. I swear the biggest piece was no more than 2 or 3 inches at its biggest point. I didn't want my Mom and Dad to find out, so we got a dustpan and broom and swept up the remains, then deposited them in Bear's garbage can. It was never mentioned again, but every time I see a MMM on Ebay I get that guilt feeling and that "HOW COULD I HAVE BEEN THAT STUPID" :y: feeling.
I have issues.

OMG!!!! DON YOU HAVE TO CLONE THESE AS A KIT!!!!!

https://www.wildtoys.com/MMMPage/MMMresources/LiftingBody/index.asp

These would be AWESOME if someone with access to vaccuum molding equipment wanted to "clone" these...

The wildtoys page is just TOO cool... LOTS of good stuff over there...

Wish I had a bunch of these to make a working crawler/tranporter...

How come all the good toys came either before my time or after?? Later! OL JR :)

A cousin had MMM toys. Recalls one of the MMM astronauts had a hardshell type EVA suit that was basically a capsule with arms and legs.

You probably mean the Moon Suit

Which was based on an actual prototype suit

I think the thing that many of us found interesting about the toy line at the time was that many of the accessories were based on actual NASA designs.
