Listened last night to the owners of Mach 1 Rocketry who were guests of The Rocketry Show podcast.

https://www.therocketryshow.com/the...d-power-fiberglass-rockets-and-bama-blastoff/

Even though they are based here in Alabama, and both leaders in our NAR Section, I haven't had a chance to build any of the kits yet. Can't wait though!

I've got the 3" "Unchained Lightning" kit sitting in my pile now. I think it's one of the most beautiful rocket designs I've ever seen.

Next up is going to be one of the low power fiberglass kits, possibly the Black Hole BT-60 kit. The LP stuff is so lightweight and super strong. I've only built 3-4 fiberglass birds so far, this will be a great way to get some inexpensive experience under my belt. Another great looking rocket.

If anyone has built either of these kits, I'd love to hear your review, and any caveats before I begin construction. Got the Dawn dish soap ready, and plan to use Rocketpoxy for adhesive.

It's awesome to have a rocketry company within our NAR section. Hopefully this means we get to see all the new designs fly here first.

I haven't built one yet, but I do have some of their BT tubing. It is outstanding. You can't hardly flex a BT60 out of round with your hand. It is that tough and hardly weighs more than the paper tubes it is replacing.

The 3" fiberglass tubing is all that I currently on hand. I took out the components and dry fit everything. The tubing is really strong--compared to similar kits that I've brought from other companies.

I think they mentioned this on the show last night--but one thing I know the owners do is that they dry fit all kit parts for each individual kit before it is bagged. I'm not aware of any other company doing that kind of quality control. While they recommend the usual Dawn dish soap bath, and scuffing/scoring all parts where they will be glued-the things look ready to paint right out of the bag. Super smooth.

Instructions are well written too. Easy to understand even for new rocketeers like myself.

Another plus is that Mach 1 only makes fiberglass kits; LPR, MPR, and HPR--that means that they can really focus on equipment and processes that work best for fiberglass--without worrying about how that will work for cardboard or wood components. They really are the fiberglass specialists.

I'm going to order that Black Hole BT-60 and get started on it. I may actually build it first before tackling the Unchained Lightning kit I have on hand. That would give me some experience with their instructions, parts, and finishing their rockets. I've seen quite a few fiberglass tubes before, but nothing quite like these. Really smooth and strong.

Super cool. Assuming then we'll have free reign to mix and match. Thank you.

I purchased one of 2.6" kits and found out that the Mad Cow FW and gel coat cones fit perfect. Like has been said the tubing and fit of all parts is flawless.

I like the BT-60 kit for its price range. It’s a step up from the Estes kits and I think it will sell well. Gives new guys and gals an inexpensive solid chance at L-1 cert conversions from an MPR bird. I still like my Wildman RB-05A sport. But it’s nice to see more kits in the market.

Our section, the Birmingham Rocket Boys really wanted to draw the public, especially TARC teams, and kids to the launch event. Mach 1 Rocketry put their money where their mouth was--and offered to purchase radio ads on local stations to promote the event to the public. For those who haven't heard the podcast, here is a link to that ad. Pretty darn cool! Hope everyone will come out to Bama Blastoff. One of the highest waivers east of the Mississippi river!
