    There's no better way to start the new year than to do it with a new kit AND a new product. These are the first batch of the new Flies. We always make our new kits available to the TRF community before they're added to our website.

    This kit is the first in our new 6" glass. We wanted to use nothing but the finest components for these kits. The only logical choice was to start with the best Glass available. Our second goal was to reduce weight without compromising integrity. All of the centering rings, bulk plates, fins and motor tube are canvas phenolic. The canvas components are 25% lighter than glass of the same size. Finally, the fit and finish had to be as good if not better than our canvas kits....and they are.     Specifications:

    Dual Deploy/HED
    Length: 84 inches
    Motor Mount: 75mm
    Approximate Weight: 16 lbs
    K through N motors

    Contents of Kit:
    • 48" Wildman filament wound fiberglass airframe (includes switchband)
    • 75mm x 24" canvas phenolic motor tube
    • 5:1 Wildman FWFG-VK nosecone with 12” fiberglass coupler -- 35" exposed (includes 3/8” tubular Kevlar bridle for HED)
    • Head End Deploy includes: canvas phenolic bulkplates, 3-D printed altimeter board with dual battery boxes and all necessary hardware (U-bolts, threaded rods, etc.)
    • (5) 3/16" canvas phenolic beveled fins
    • ¼” canvas phenolic forward center ring with dual U-bolts
    • 3/16” canvas phenolic mid and rear centering rings
    • ¼” canvas phenolic thrust plate (optional aluminum thrust plate available)
    • Molded fiberglass tailcone
    Does not include motor retainer.

    Kit Cost: $625.00
    Upgrade to Aluminum Thrust Plate -- $685.00

    I suppose no swarm is complete without the queen. Please put one aside for me Mike.

    You know a 10" airframe would make a great host for that Pro 150 hardware. I went right to the 10" because it only makes sense that you reserve the 8" airframe for the 98mm hardware.

    You could call them the "Super Duper BlackFly" and the "Super Double Duper BlackFly"

    I've purchased one the the first two of these kits for my upcoming L3 project!

    Mike has already shipped mine and I should receive early next week so I can begin construction shortly. I'll be doing my L3-certification flight with a Loki M1650 75mm motor. 12,000 feet AGL, 88 ft/sec off the pad, and about 22Gs. I can't wait...

    Why did I pick MAC Performance Rocketry for this important project? Three reasons:

    - The quality and thoughtfulness that Mike puts into their kits is absolutely top notch
    - The fit and finish of virtually every part is the best that I have seen from any vendor
    - Mike has been a great mentor and coach helping me during 2018 as I progressed from nowhere to L1 to L2

    FYI, I have a 4" BlackFly Dual Deploy from Mike that I recently flew to 10,900 feet AGL on a CTI K600 that you can see in my photo. I love this rocket and plan to fly it even higher with a CTI K660 soon. Right now I'm working on a carbon-fiber version of Mike's Hyper 54 that I'm building to fly late this year with a Loki M1378 using a 54-4000 case, hopefully to over 25,000 feet AGL.

    Mike, thanks for the great work on this new kit, for all your other great products, and most important, for you friendship and guidance.

    This is why we get along so well, I think 10" airframe and you go with 12".

    I see a massive swarm of unusually large BlackFlys in the future.

    Pictures just don’t do this ‘Fly justice! It’s really something to behold in person.

    As you’d expect from MAC all the parts fit perfectly but my TAPs said I have to use glue.

    You bet, hopefully a maiden flight in April-May once NCR is flying again at the Pawnee NG north site. I've cleared my build pile in anticipation. Mine has been in the design phase for over a month with construction now proceeding in earnest. L1150R, M1297W, and 75/5120 hardware have all been on order for a couple months now...


    Mr. Pitfield-

    Not sure about a full on build thread, curating one properly is a project in and of itself and spare time seems to be in short supply lately. Maybe I'll share my L3 documentation by request?

    TBD on the nose tip, with HED and the extended length booster it might not need any extra nose weight!

    One more yuuuuge picture... Here's just the NC next to my 4" Fly, which last flew on an L1000W and is prepped for a K1103X flight next month.

    lol I misread that and thought you said here is my 4" nosecone then I looked at the pic and filled in the blank as "beside my 54mm"...that is one giant nosecone.

    I am looking forward to seeing your results, no doubt it will be a nice looking rocket once you're done with it. Lots of room to try some combinations of deployment technologies, maybe an old school charge-well as a backup with Raptor CO2 as primary.

    I'm estimating a dry weight of ~28lbs (everything but the motor). With that, OR says:
    L1150R - 5,200'
    M1297W - 8,600'
    M1315W - 10,900'
    M1850W - 11,700'
