Coat hanger in the ground and a firecracker fuse was all I knew as a kid. I still have coat hanger straightening skills.

A standard electrical box cover/hole drilled off center makes a great blast plate !?

I use a cake pan to turn the sparks up and away from the grass. Posted a thread about it and certainly had some interesting discussion pro and con.
