Flew the LOC 4" Goblin on an H238T with 6 second delay today and got L1 cert.
Forgot to take photos or flight video but have video from on board.

Was pretty windy so it drifted a ways from the 956 feet apogee. Luckily I put an Eggfinder GPS on the shock cord and has able to walk right to it. I did need to get within 15 feet to see it in the high grass.

Jolly Logic Chute release would have minimized wind drift. Nice flight.

I did plan on the drift and we setup at a location in the field to drift over the open fields and not over the thick tree lines and cow pasture. A chute release at 400' would have drifted a bit more than half what it did.
Also with GPS Eggfinder on board I knew I could track it and find it.
With the winds I consider this a near perfect flight. If the wind was a different direction I would not have flown and waited until our next launch for the cert flight.

I do fly DD rockets at that field with the main set to 200'.

I know a lot of people use and like the JLCR but I have seen quite a few failure include L1 cert attempts. Since I've never used one I was not going to do so first time on a cert flight.

Now planning on L2... I am thinking on making an AVBay and extended BT on the Goblin. Then run full redunent Dual Deploy with a J450. This can not be done at our club's field so maybe next year at Red Glare. In the mean time I do want to get down to MDRA and fly some of my larger DD rockets on H and I motors.

I do admit that I blatantly stole the idea from jd2cylman's "mistake", but I kinda took it up a notch. She will have her first flight July 4th weekend. "Midnight Goblin" a LOC 4" kit with carbon fibered body tubes and CF tip to tip. 🚀🔥View attachment 523867View attachment 523868
So I FG’d my body tube, attached the fins and then FG’d tip to tip and (4oz with West Systems) and I’m going to have a TON of sanding to do. Can you give the Readers Digest version of what you did ?

Adding my 4” Goblin to the mix. First flight was yesterday at the NOTRA launch in North East Ohio. Still honing my iMovie skills. :)

My daughter was key in the construction. Even though only 10, she loves to assemble kits and help assemble the motors.

Make a loop of lock-wire to go around both Z-clip screws on ACR, insert fin can til FCR hits 30 min. epoxy pull back a smidge to squeege the goo on the aft side a tick then sneak a finger in the BT to pop the Apogee aft rail button T-nut through with a smidge of 30 min. on it then shove the can home, grab a dowel and build up fillet on FCR from above, spin by hand for 30 mins w/ heat on it, let it cure for a couple days in the curing tent (cold here) with a small fan forced space heater, (I converted my dinette into this tent here at the little camper in the boonies, meals on the sofa for a while...but hey, it's a Goblin, it's worth it). Then...

Next up- Aeropack 54-38 retainers. Not using the 38/29 stuff that came with the kit, which actually works perfectly and is a VERY nice inclusion to the kit IMO. Props to LOC for that.
