Kaboom Krew patch logo v1.0 (1).jpg

Members of the St. Louis Rocketry Association would like to announce our current project for LDRS 38.

'The Kaboom Krewe' is building a model of Marvin the Martian's rocket.

Marvin The Martian Model.JPG

Specs are approximate as the build is ongoing...

48" diameter
120" tall
6" O motor (probably a sparky)

We are building the rocket out of 2" pink foam shell, with a plywood and fiberglass structure.

Fins are 1" thick cabinet grade plywood

Progress is ongoing. Foam has all been cut, general shape is done. We will try to update as much as we can.

Have you guys secured a Marvin costume for Lou?

We are working on tailoring a costume for Lou.

We're looking forward to LDRS! This should be fun!

I am trying to get Dan to drive down I44 to LDRS and stop by the Uranus Fudge Factory... If you have ever driven down I44 between St. Louis and Springfield, MO., you'll know what I'm talking about :)

Reminds me of my own Marvin Project...

Now, if I can only find the thread... (I've struck out on over 10 search strings)

Any guess what the final weight will be on this? How are you managing stability considering it's shape?

Heavy.

Sorry guys, I was on a honeymoon last week, and one of our members took on a very heavy social media presence on FB so I kinda let this one slide. I will try and do an update tonight.

In short, the shell has been shaped, we applied about 45% of the glass over the shell last night, fins are ready to be installed once the glassing is done...

It will be close, but we should be OK.

Motor grains have been cast. Motor hardware machining is complete. Just need to wrap up the airframe and go from there.

At this time I'm not sure when we are flying Marvin. I will see if I can get some idea of that. Of course, will depend on the weather forecast. We will be flying from the awayyyyyyy cell, I believe.

Here are some photos I stole from our FB page. Photo Credit does NOT go to me. It's late, I'll deal with it if someone complains ;)

Those are 6" O motor grains in the photo of the motor grains. Sparky O propellant. Should be about a 98% O motor. Good times!

Well, it sounds like it will either a great launch or an Earth-Shattering Ka-Boom!

Where is the info being posted? I’m interested in this build and launch.

Glad you're going with a sparky. That will just seal the deal! Wish I could be there, but it's not in the cards for me at this stage of my life.

If we can live stream, we will... But I cannot rely on my AT&T coverage at Argonia - it was terrible when I was there in 2017... Others on the team may have better success. Regardless, you can bet that there will be plenty of footage and photos!
