launch rod velocity

What is the minimum speed off of the launch rod you consider safe? I can't say I have ever had a problem but I also can't remember ever seeing a discussion on this.

I'm sure it depends on the rocket's size and all, but I seem to remember hearing around 45 fps was a good number to be around.

The answer depends on the rocket aerodynamics (which is affected by wind speed). Two 'datapoints'...

From InfoCentral: "44 fps (30mph) is generally accepted as a minimum safe speed for stable flight and is good for winds up to 5 mph. Faster speeds are necessary to achieve stability in windy conditions so add 9 fps (6 mph) for each additional 1 mph of wind speed. "

Rocksim defaults to 43 fps.
