The link is a summary of my L3 cert build and then flight at NSL2017. While successful, the recovery could have been better. There are also links to the on-board video and a ground video of the launch that my wife took.
Build and Flight Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m1xsf5emjfht2nf/My L3 Project.pdf?dl=0
On-board video (cool at first, then rapid rotation is observed): https://www.dropbox.com/s/g6ula2umncfnjtu/L3 Cert Flight on-board video.mp4?dl=0

Comments, suggestions, etc are welcomed! Thanks!

My NAR L3 project was based on a Madcow 4" fiberglass DX3 XL kit.

I extended the aft and payload sections, modified the nose cone to house redundant
trackers and did three layer tip to tip fiberglass on the fins.

I think my project is a good example of a success obsessed, modest effort that
included doing things I hadn't done before.

Key features of my L3 document are:

  • Detailed construction blog including honest descriptions of my screw ups and solutions
  • Exhaustively detailed checklists that left no room for problems to foil success
  • Links to "how-to" videos and the resources I used to get deployment charge and parachute sizing
  • Report on my pre-cert, cert, and post-cert flights
  • A bit of humor (YMMV)
  • Based on the NAR L3 example document

I hope that my very detailed checklists might help other people going for their L3 to succeed
the first time (like me.)
