L class Motors

I have a question... I am curious where I could buy a L class motor for the rocket i am putting together? As you can tell I am breaking into the HPR level and don't have the means to make my own motors.

You need to go through a certification process to legally purchase and use that motor. You will also need to go to a launch that has an appropriately large field and has received FAA permission to launch such a large motor.

You really really need to find a local club that will mentor you!!! They'll also be able to put you in touch with motor vendors, once you're ready.

Welcome on board! Rocketry is a great hobby. And it is even more fun when you can fly with a good club! The NAR and Tripoli sites have club location features. Or tell us your approximate location and your "level of pain" for driving and people will chime in with suggestions.

Depending on how far "east" in TN you are there are several clubs within your reach. The Music City Missile Club (MC2) flies out of Manchester, TN as does the Hunstville Area Rocketry Association (HARA). There are a couple clubs in the Birmingham, AL area as well. I am not real familiar with the clubs east of TN but I know there are several.

Definitely look at either the NAR or Tripoli websites. Both organizations run similar high power certification programs that are the only accepted methods for purchasing/flying high power motors.

After you're a little more with familiar motor sizes and the cert processes, check out the "local Club/Prefect" links as well. I'd bet you're fairly close to some local launch events. Even if a launch is hour or so away, you'll find it worth your trip just to show up and watch!
