I started the Pem Tech King Kraken today. (who wants a build thread?) The one thing I noticed most was the tubular nylon shock cord, which I'll probably need a cord protector for. I have never used a protectorand I don't think I can get one until the rocket is done and needs a parachute.

Is it possible to install the motor mount and slide a protector on after the rocket is done, or do I need to wait and install the motor mount until I have a protector?

Kevlar cord protectors are simply sleeves that slip over the nylon. You should be able to install the motor mount now and then slide the cord protector over the nylon when you need to....provided you can reach and slip on the protector as far down the nylon cord so it won't be exposed to motor ejection charges once the rocket is assembled.

Personally, I use exclusively kevlar cords in my MPR & HPR rockets. I replace any nylon with kevlar and avoid having to use the cord protectors.

I use all kevlar cords also and I slip a kevlar cord protecter over it. Ive had an I motor blow through and blew the kevlar apart and seperated. Dont know if would have kept it together or not. But the kevlar will wear down eventually and need to be replaced. Just a little extra insurance.

OH OH!
I do!
I want as build thread!
;)

Never tried KEVLAR shockcord protectors, will have to look into that. So far the tubular nylon has held up like a champ.

FYI:

We have NEW Nomex chute and cord protectors in stock!
See our RECOVERY AREA.

Nomex has the same high temp properties as kevlar but it is physically not as strong. Works great for protectors.

We stock 60 Inch long cord protectors !
Check it out.

Oh no!

I already cut and glued on all the fins with no pictures! I could start a thread from there...
