Science fiction writer Jerry Pournelle has passed away. No info right now about cause. More info at Chaos Manor web site https://www.jerrypournelle.com/chaosmanor/passings/

Seems like everybody I really like/liked is passing away. Going to read a bunch of his books over the next week.
Great author. You might enjoy Charles Stross
... He is my favorite contemporary author at the moment.

So sad... such a colorful character I had the pleasure of meeting up with over the years.
His stories, experiences and vision were truly unique. You are missed by many.

I read his column in Byte and greatly enjoyed it. Later I read his articles on his website and I read his books. I especially enjoyed his collaborations with Larry Niven. They're some of the best hard science fiction ever. I will miss his contributions and I'm grateful he left a large body of work.

I too read his articles in Byte. Also read some of his books. I'm inspired to go get a few I have not read.

He is probably most noted for the amount of money he caused the American government to spend, starting back in the 80's I think. He got in the ear of President Ronald Regan and from then the SDI project was born. Strategic Defense Initiative.

I think that project also spawned the airborne LASER in the 747.

All that and then some... he was plugged in politically and the stories he told of those times were amazing.
A genuine soul and my sympathies to out to Rich and the rest of the family.

Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven were a couple of my favorite sci-fi authors as a kid. They co-authored some books as well, Lucifer's Hammer was quite good (according to 14 year old me).
