I'm not sure when it started; it may have been when the supplies of small boosters was dwindling; whenever I would see packs of A3/A8/A10 boosters, I'd pick some up. Then there were rumors of the B6-0 going away, so I began to hoard them. Or it may have started when I discovered blast-off packs at Michaels a few years ago, with 50% off coupons. Possibly it began during some local store closings; A local hobby town closed a couple years ago, with a bunch of motors 50% off, I just had to get some of those (looking back, wish I would have picked up more). Last year a local craft store closed, with half-price on everything, including a whole bunch of 1/4A, C11, and D12 motors. Then along came the Walmart $3 packs, those are just soo hard to resist. Recently, a friend gave me a sizeable bag of motors from when he was in the hobby years ago.

Wondering just how large my stash is, and thinking I should start being more selective in what deals I succumb to (I have a *lot* of C6 motors, but am just about out of others), I did a complete inventory this weekend, and I was surprised to count a total (including reloads) of 364 motors. :eek:

So, how big is your motor problem, er, stash? ;)

not as big as it once was..... have not bought any motors for about 1.5 years now.
by a rought calculation i'm down to about 200 A-D motors, with about 20 E and higher motors.
most of the good motors have started to zero out: my supply og C6-3 and D12 are nearly all gone, and the prices in the UK seem to be getting higher all the time.
and there's only so much you can do with 40 B6-6 motors

Bob, was that Atlas motor from the late 50's very early 60's? Kurt.

Kurt,

The Atlas motor is from 1965.

It was made and sold by Centuri Engineering after they bought Coaster.

I wrote an article for LAUNCH Magazine about the history of Enerjet which had a brief description of when Centuri produced/sold various 'large' motors.

Counting reloads and OOP motors, my current inventory is 310, which I consider to be a medium-sized supply. This total includes 48 Micromaxx-II and 8 Micromaxx-I motors.

Like most others, probably, I have too many of some motors and not enough of others. I am particularly weak on reloads for my RMS motors. I don't have any for my 24/40 case, and I never have, since I bought it. I'm also currently out for my Pro-38-1 grain sleeve. I do have a few for my 29/40-120 motor, along with a couple SU's and one or two for my 38/120 motor.

I'm also building a lot of multi-stagers right now, but I am a little low on booster motors. (I have some, but I'll need to buy more pretty soon after I start flying them.) My supply is heavy on the motors that Walmart carries and on the motors contained in the Blast-Off Flight Pack. :rolleyes:

If we get some good launch weather in my area this year and I can get out to some of my club's launches, my supply will dwindle fast.

Let's see, in my tackle box o' motors I have...

2 G's, 1 F, 2 E15's, 2 E9's, 5 D's, 4 C's, 2 B's, and no A's.

As you can see, we buy most of our motors the week before a launch. :rolleyes:

As far as sizes go I have from 1/4A to a J, plan on burning a pile of them this year:)

A=20
B=30
C=50
E=20
F=60
G=40
H=20
I=15
J=12
K=4
L=5
M=3
N=0 :(

It is embarrassingly large.

I really need to fly more!

I have over 600 motors in my vintage and foreign collection alone, plus tqo Xerox boxes full of my flying motors....

Phred,

I WOULD expect you to have a pretty good motor collection with all the motor buying you were doing at the NARAM-50 auction. ;)

I really don't want to count all of mine since I really don't have the time. I know I could go without buying any for a long time and still launch a lot of rockets....Low, Mid , and High power.

I keep telling myself that I really don't need to buy any new motors for a while.

Good thing I don't listen to myself very well!:D

Yeah, compared to Phred's, my stash feels positively puny... :D

I keep a healthy supply on hand because I live in a remote area and don't have ready access to a store or vendor that sells rocket motors/engines. Apparently, I also seem to be buying more than I'm flying, which would explain why they keep accumulating.

Here is a photo I took of my 'motor stash' a couple months ago..
Labeled.jpg

Have since gotten 7 packages of A10-PT's and a Quest bulk pack of C6's plus some other odds and ends...The open 'tool boxes' are what I carry to the launch field..THe left front one is my 24mm box, the right front one is my 29mm box and the back one is my 13/18mm box..My 38/54mm bag didn't make the picture(mainly cause I didn't have any 38mm or 54mm stuff then!LOL)..

Almost out of 24mm Estes motors(2 E9-6's)..But have plenty of reloads for 18/24 and 29mm, and a few reloads for 38mm..

Well, nobody seemed to have any idea how or why this thread was Locked, so I've unlocked it.

Sorry about that!

Phil

YAY!

I haven't taken inventory. I have a range of sizes from micro-max to 29mm.
Some are stored in a wooden ammo crate, a variety are kept in a thick plywood instrument chest for transport to camp or the flying field. Ditto with an MTM dry box "ammo can". A few Bradley AFV black 40mm ammo chests (double-ended) are designated for C's, D's & E's. Anything larger are kept in a thick, polystyrene foam chest. If I look hard enough, there's probably a couple Composite Technology Motors, AVI Gold Series, And a few FSI rattling around here.

Well I've got a bunch of Estes motors and right now 6 G motors in my flight box as I've been on a G motor buying binge lately.:D

I also ordered the new 24/60 and F35W reloads from Always Ready Rocketry, he's just waiting on AT to send them to him.

I really don't have too many right now. I haven't bought any motors since a long while. I have maybe 10-15 BP motors in total plus maybe 15 AP reloads. I should have stocked up on motors and gotten a few bulk packs while Quest had their sale.

I don't know the numbers, but all my motors weight 162.543 lbs.....That will change in a few weeks when my order comes in, and will probably double or so.

:y:

I have eleven ammo boxes full of motors, a large tackle box of "flying motors", and another smaller plastic box of recently acquired motors. I have historical motors from single types like a SEMROC A, Rocket Supply A, and an AAA C. Multiples of MRI, MPC, AVI, Estes and Centuri (of course), FSI, a couple of Mini-Max, a couple Enerjets, a couple Coasters, some early Aerotech, Vulcan, Composite Dynamics (uuummmm, E20 and F40), NCR motorss including a few prototypes, a beautiful Prodyne E motor, Apogee 10.5mm including some that were sold to me before they were canceled, foreign motors from a decade ago, Canaroc motors, and a few odds and ends. Probaly missing a few types, but so far so good. Wonder if Shredvector will trade me for some of the poopy clay motors that I have... C5-3's anyone? Free the A10-0t's!

Chas

I guess my stash got to the size it did because of buying only when they're on sale. I can't recall the last time I ever bought motors at full price.

Some deals I've gotten:

.75 a pack (bp; Wal-mart)
1.00 a pack (bp; Wal-mart)
50% off of AT composites (Hobbytown USA)
50% off bulk packs (Michaels)
40% off (bp; Hobby Lobby)
50% off (bp D's & E's; Hobby Lobby)
1.00 a pack (x6) for Micromax (Wal-mart - don't ask me how they get into their system; I waited a year for these to be put on sale)

You've just got to be patient and wait for clearance deals or coupons.

I can't confirm or deny the size
or existence of any alleged APCP
motors having more than 62.5g of
propellant until the final outcome of
ATF court case is in effect....
:D

Got a few Estes A8-3's thou...
:p
