I know rocketry is the best hobby ever but what other things do you spend your free time and disposable income doing? When I'm not messing with rockets, I build go-ped scooters, shoot photos, or ride my mountain bike. I also enjoy listening to pubic radio and building electronics kits. In the past, I've bult battle bots, played a little baseball, and bowled on a league team. Here's a picture of my monster Go-Ped GSR40. It's engine is a highly-modified 41.5cc Zenoah that drinks 117 octane leaded racing fuel. I've put countless hours working on this thing. Why? Because I love seeing the looks on people's faces when I gun it and pass cars. That's 41.5cc of 2-cycle fury baby!

Recently, nothing else. I'm catching up on some lost time (messing around in a PhD program). During that time a I a radio show. It went pro; voting member of Native American Music Awards, and would have been a Grammy member except the CD I produced I gave away free instead of selling.

When I lived in the north woods I used to go deer hunting, without a weapon. I'd do all the same stuff staking them out a luing them in, and then try to hide by their path and touch one as they came by. I've got four so far.

I used to body surf, when I lived in Virginia Beach. Sometimes the dolphins would swim along.

And I spent about 7 or 8 years with a white hat hacker group catching bad guys and keeping the corprate types acting like good neighbors on the net. This is how I met my wife. She was doing the same, freelance.

And sometimes I collect my material and do some comedy, whether on stage or on paper.

I golf (kinda), and that's about it. I also enjoy lounging. That's a good one. Lounging...yes.

When I can find the time (it's frustrating that FlisKits' anniversary is right at the beginning of pumpkin season!!!) I am a master pumpkin carver, though i've only done maybe 4 pumpkins the last 2 seasons and this year doesn't look good either :) YOu can check out my past work at: https://jflis.com/hobbies/pumpkins/pumpkins.htm

ALso love to fish but the same story there as with pumpkins. Haven gotten a hook wet in 2 years... Enjoy bass and trout fishing, but nothing beats pulling in a 60+ pound Alaskan King Salmon!

Wood work, reading, poetry, cosmology and the study of space, ukranian egg decorating, hiking/moutain climbing, road trips to nowhere, long walks on the beach at 4am...

Have dabbled with R/C cars and planes, model railroading, landscaping and gardening. Just not enough time...

I try to get out on the ocean and do some deep sea fishing for Cod, and go for Tuna in the fall offshore.

It's kinda hard to remember what I did before rocketry!

I went to college/university part time (day release and nights) for 10 years and also have 5 kids, and that didn't leave much time for hobbies!

But before all of that I played in a band, and before that I did plastic and "railroad" modelling.

Since I live only 1,000 feet from Lake Huron (BIG LAKE!) this is my "other" hobby.

All hand built from plans. Yep, I even made the oars.

Rows really fast too!

I enjoy (when time permits):

Hiking
Travelling (Europe is great for that)
Photography
Model Railroading
Stamp/Coin Collecting
Astronomy
Recreational Computing (aka playing computer games)
Oh yeah, Rocketry!

I just need about 36 - 48 hours in the day to enjoy all the things I love to do!

sandman, then you should really get a kick out of the cardboard canoe that I built to win in our local "cardboard boat races" :) Here is a photo essay of the construction: https://jflis.com/leisure/canoeing/cardboard.htm

You did a *beautiful* job on that boat, by the way :)

I enjoy programming, so I'm self taught HTML and Perl Script for my website (which is about 80% of my involvement in Rocketry as well).

In my youth, I loved building model airplanes.

Now they're:

- Building/flying LPR
- Geocaching w my GPS
- camping the western USA.
- some trout fishing
- deer hunt once a year (the deer are pretty safe around me!) :D
- My Dodge Ram truck!

- Much of my time I spend w my children. They say they grow up fast, so I'm trying to spend quality time before they do grow up!

We also border a large lake so boating and fishing is a key part of our recreation.
We finally purchased a new Larson runabout in 2002 so my old hobby of working on boats (mainly during the summer season) is finally a thing of the past .

we also collect rock music (generaly old lp's), our collection has grown to around 2,500 titles.

I'm also a musician, and have a small home studio based on the roland vs880, I also play lead gtr in a Kiss cover band on rare occasions.

I like to lay on the couch and watch TV.
I used to love to fish, Walleye mostly, but my boat is shot and haven't had the time anyway.

My hobbies include:

- Singing (Karaoke, at church, in the shower, with the radio, etc.)
- Drinking (while singing Karaoke, typing on this forum)
- Boating
- Kites. I like single-line kites, particularly large and unique cellular kites. I'm a terrible sewer, so I have yet to master making them myself. The "flagship" of my growing kite "fleet" is my custom appliqued Sutton 252 with custom tails. Here it is with one of the 3 matching tails.

BTW: that "252" designation is the square footage of the "face" of the kite. It is 14' wide x 18' tall (14 x 18 = 252). The Tube tail is 6" in diameter and 100' long. To give you an idea of the scale, here's a pic I found on the net with a dude standing in front of his.

Geocaching is really cool. I'm trying to start a letterboxing club at my school.

That's not a hobby.

It's a proud cultural tradition just like the puckey-toss.

Ever dragged a green city kid along and not told them? The look on their face is priceless.

LOL!! I remember my first effort at cow-tipping. If you don't have at least 6 decent-sized guys and a running start, you're gonna have one ticked off cow chasing you down.

My only other real hobby is paintball.
