Howdy! I’ve just joined this forum and am glad to be here. I’ve been building and flying RC aircraft since the early 90s and have always wanted to get into model rocketry! I just got an Apogee Saturn V Model Rocket and have been working on it for the past week. I’m looking forward to learning much about model rocketry here! Happy Nee Year! Joe

Hey! Good kit you’ve got there. If you’ve picked up any craftsmanship from the world of RC, that Saturn V will really put them to the test.

Have you got a motor picked out yet?

No I haven’t looked at motors yet. So far it’s been a pretty easy build. The inner LEM transition wrap gave me some grief today but we got er’ done! I was waiting for the Gold CA (no kidding that’s a good name because that stuff is pricey!) to show up before starting on the wraps. I have it so they come next. 🥰

Hello Joe, here are some notes I made when constructing the Apogee Saturn about 20 years ago. No doubt some info is out of date. It's a beautiful model! I don't know the current instruction set---no doubt Tim has changed this-or-that over the years---but one suggestion: IF the current instructions include a glued-in engine block or similar...don't. Just don't. It limits the motor length. There are 29 mm motors other than the G80 that can be used with the Saturn.

If I had it to do over I'd revamp the motor mount for five 29 mm motors. Five Estes F15s or AT F25s would make for a spectacular launch!

I had a lot of trouble using thin CA for the wraps. Details in those notes.

Welcome to the forum! You will learn far more than you thought possible. And fellow rocketnutz are extremely helpful. Well...mostly. One problem: if you ask a question the odds are very good that five rocketnutz will give you seven different answers. :D

Best,
Terry

I gotta admit, that is a most ambitious jump into rocketry! But you seem to be handling it very well, and as always, the good @prfesser has come alongside you to help. I hope, someday, to be able to do the mighty Saturn V justice, but in the meantime I just have to find some time to build and fly!

Welcome, and give us plenty of eye candy as you build this big beauty!
