Help identifying

Hello everyone,

In a google search recently I spotted a rocket that piqued my interest. Hoping it might be a kit and not custom and some of you might recognize it. Hope it's ok to use this picture!

Looks like a Navy SA-14 Archer. I know North Coast rocketry has a smaller version of the rocket. You could use Rocksim to upscale it if you can't find the kit.

It looks like it could be the SA-14 Archer XL

However, that kit is out of production (OOP) and the rear fins also appear too large in the pictured rocket.

You can get a very similar kit, which is the SA-14 Archer, but the strakes (the long narrow fins going down the side, ahead of the larger rear fins) are narrower in the kit.

You can also purchase the kit on eBay.

The Standard Arm AGM-78 has a slightly different strake and fin design. The body tube ahead of the strakes is also longer on the pictured model.

It does not appear to perfectly match any of these, so scratch built is a possibility.

The only info on it I saw was that it was being used for a level 1 cert flight. Other than that nada

North Coast SA-14 Archer. IIRC, the original motor mount was 28.5mm. You had to buy their branded F and G motors.

I scratch built one with a 38 in it once, it came in a little on the heavy side. Fun flyer on baby J's, tho.

Good luck. To my knowledge the NCR birds are still OOP. But I'm sure someone makes one similar... Or just scratch build it.

Looks like the original 4" Archer XL from before 1994. I cut many of fins for them '93-'94. Matt Steele has brought North Coast back, but has limited kits to 2.6" tubing as a standard. The above link is to the current product line. Check out the accessories, too. I have a NCR glue caddy on my work desk and take to all launches.
