Hey everyone!

I'm from the SEDS Singapore Rocketry Club, a student-run rocketry club in Singapore (the only one in the country), and I'm pretty excited to join this forum. To date, our team has only launched a single rocket at the Friends of Amateur Rocketry (FAR) launch site, but hey, I guess everyone's gotta start somewhere! :)

Rocketry is a pretty challenging hobby in Singapore, a country with strict laws and regulations. Due to this, we've had to find all kinds of workarounds for some of our rocket's components. Fore example, we decided to go with a ejection mechanism that utilized a hot-wire system in order to deploy our chutes, due to laws here in Singapore on the use and importation of certain energetics and explosives (like black powder and e-matches). This allowed us to do our testing in Singapore, which made things a lot easier for us.

Our team is planning to launch another rocket again at the FAR launch site this coming year, at the FAR-OUT competition held end May - June. I had a great time there last year at the previous competition we took part in, and got to meet many great folks from other colleges and universities.

Edit: Added a pic I took of our last launch! We faced a number of challenges leading up to the launch, but we were assisted by many of the awesome people on site. We couldn't have done it without them. A special shoutout to the folks at FAR and the Norco College Rocketry Team - ya'll guys are awesome.

Well done on the deployment ingenuity. So, is there somewhere more local to launch? Like, in Malaysia perhaps?

TP
Yep! Malaysia is definitely a possibility - Australia seems to have a pretty strong rocketry community as well, so we may try that in the future. We're still working things out, but launching in Malaysia would make things a lot easier for us when it comes to getting our stuff to the launchsite.

:welcome:to the forum. thanks for great picture
Thank you! Hoping to get more photos soon. I also did try my best to get some shot of the other rockets leaving the launch rail at the FAR-51025 2023 competition - I'll probably post some here in the forum when I have the time! :)

Welcome to the forum. I'm one of the volunteers with FAR-OUT, so look forward to getting to meet the team!

I'm glad to see you and your fellow members having the determination to pursue your passion with all the "headwind" of regulations making it harder. I hope that you can find a better place to launch that doesn't require a transcontinental airline trip! But we do have a reasonable representation of rocketeers from Austrailia here on the forum, and if necessary I'm sure they'd be willing to help with an Australian launch. I mean, face, it... FAR is really far for you!

As an added coincidence, my favorite preacher is from Singapore.

Yep you're right - FAR is crazy far compared to Australia and Malaysia which are just a hop, skip and a jump away. I did see a fair amount of posts in the New Member Introductions made by rocketry enthusiasts from Australia (I recall seeing one from Victoria).
