I read this on Facebook
By Steve Lebow
As a religious Jew I have nothing to do on Christmas.
So all I can do at Christmas is go to be with those who have no place to go.
You see, every year on Christmas Eve my synagogue opens up its Sunday School annex to shelter the homeless.
Here in a warm place homeless families can find shelter for this Holy Week.
A few yards from out Temple we Jews set up a Christmas tree for homeless children, letting them still retain the sweet fantasies of childhood.
My wife and I played games with the kids until their parents shuffled them off to bed.
By midnight this old Rabbi will take the place of Father Christmas, placing presents in their stockings.
This is not my holiday. I have understood that since I was 6 years old.
Nonetheless, it is the holiday of these six homeless children. How could we not help them celebrate their holy day?
As I tell my students, our lives are made deeper by service to others.
Soon I will nod off to sleep and in my dreams my Hannukah lights will dance the hora with your Christmas trees.
May it be a good year, a year of sweetness and kindness, a holiday of light and peace.
