Software issue caused incorrect altitude calculation leading to crash:

I'm going to presume that we're not getting all the information as to why the software issue led to the accident. The provided explanation makes the engineers appear like idiots and I'm pretty sure they're not.

But the article seemed to imply that financial pressures led to the mistake not being found/corrected.

If I had the brains to be an engineer, I don't think I'd want to work for the private sector...
