I'd like to take a moment to remeber my DEMON. I spent stupid $ on paint.. and now I have enough parts from both destroyed birds to make a shadow box..nothing salvageable, not even the motor retainer.. here is the carnage of my beloved L2 rocket..it was a Scrab-54..it never let me down, until I gave it a DIET.. Figured it cost me about a g just in that one shot.....id love to start a go fund me but can't bring myself to do that. I lost ALL my electronics, Big Red Bee, jolly logic altimiter and a flightsketch postage stamp, as well as my eagle tree altimiter, my RRC3 , An eggfinder gps.(4 altimiters)..the MAJOR PROBLEM I HAVE... I KNOW IT BROKE 7,000 FEET BUT CANT PROVE IT. All of my electronics have been returned to sand..

75mm project is already on the bench...and its a sad day as there is nothing to put inside. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Sorry to hear this. I haven't been on the forum very long but this is the worst crash I've seen/heard about. How did you locate the rocket.?? I think probably you are over a grand. Pretty sad.

Tom,
Do you know what happened?
Sorry for your loss. I know the feeling. Most of us who have done this for awhile have had a shovel recovery where electronic components shear right off the pcb. In my case it was because I didn’t turn on my altimeter.
You’ll bounce back!

I have an idea, however unless I was up at that altitude I have only an assumption..

I do know that from what ever height (alot if us were hitting 10k and I feel confident I was up in thst area...the rocket came in ballistic and unlike grass or dirt.. we have the second hardest substance known to man.. ICE.

Still sux and the bummed out part is hittin.. uggh.

All my altimeters
-Eagle tree
-jolly logic altimeter
-flightskits postage stamp
-RRRC3

DUST TO DUST.. Haven't fully opened the ebay yet.. it makes me want to vomit.

Of your four altimeters (the most I have heard of in a single rocket) I assume the Missileworks was primary? Did you have any backup for deployment?
Were there any powder burns to show that your apogee charge(s) had ignited?
I always ask my experienced friends to help me with post mortems; their objectivity and fresh perspectives are always helpful.

Motor ejection,
Jolly Logic chute releases at 800

-Altimeter 1 from Jolly logic (small weighs nothing)
-Flightsketch altimeter another light weight option
-Eagle Tree Altimeter (by far the most accurate that I've found) again weighs nothing..
-RRC3 also for altitude and "along for the ride on the sled that was going inside the rocket.

Oh I bought a big red bee that I also tossed in for good measure so that getting back the rocket would be a definite.

Im in a fog not knowing whats what.. uggh..

Tom

So you had not ejection?

I’m all for redundancy but dare we say... don’t put all your eggs in one basket? Sorry this happened. Looked like a beautiful bird.

Hence why I gave up farming...
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Was a rugged solid very strong flyer, figured I'd do a simple quick altimeter comparison. Weight was nothing to worry about so..

in they went..

Not sure even the chips are able to get the written data off of them.

I had a 2 stage project a few years ago come in ballistic on the frozen lake. I called it a Ice pick after a failure to stage and failed apogee charge. Who would have guessed a bt60 plastic nose cone could make it 2" into the ice.

My whole rocket fit into a gallon container... I salvaged the chips also, but gave up on the idea on retrieving data, but plan a picture box as a reminder.

I analyzed video and Google maps and open rocket to verify my rocket made it to 2000' on a AT G79w. The sustainer would have cleared 1 mile if the G40w started.

~John

I hit 7,000 feet on my L2 cert.
CTI J335

I shortened the rocket and shed almost a full pound, and put in a J425 6 grain..

Just to try to break my 7k record.

From the ground it got all of 10,000 feet.. (comparing other flights before and after mine)

But nothing to verify the real altitude.

Ask around. Very few experienced rocketers trust motor ejection - electronics are so much more reliable when used as intended. A bunch of ride-alongs without any for deployment? 🤔

Haven't had to many issues with CTI ejection not working. This one worked as designed.. putting 1bs of recovery into a 2lbs bag is hard

Just needed altimeters to verify altitude.. and the jolly logic works great...

Think *musket gun" in 38 mm...

Block the barel... ya.. like that..

motor ejection worked flawless..
