I was watching the CNBC (business) channel a few minutes ago, and the investment analyst mentioned that a lot of US munitions have been expended in Europe recently, and need to be replaced. It occurred to me that at a time of economic contraction, the financing of increased military budgets may come under social and political review. I first heard the term "guns and butter" during the time of the Vietnam War.
