I did some sort of java update on my computer, and now OR won't work. I've tried several versions of java, and also the standalone OR program (with the built in JRE). Nothing seems to work- what should I check next?

Thanks!

Not sure if it was a particular update, or something stupid that I did. Either way, it worked before on this computer, and then decided it was going on strike.

The standalone OR is absolutely unaffected by your system Java installation. I'm really surprised that's not working. Have you tried re-installing that one?

three times :)

It's very strange... i'll get a message that says "loading motors", then after a minute I'll get a java runtime error:

I recently updated Java and the standalone build keeps working. The machine is a very inexpensive Acer laptop with Windows 10 and every current update. I get a lot of runtime errors without the standalone build.

Use the procedures below in the order listed.

1) Uninstall all versions of Java using the "Programs and Features" utility in Control Panel. If more then one version is listed, uninstall the most recent version first and then the next most recent, and so on. after all versions have been uninstalled reboot. (In older versions of Windows prior to Windows 7, the utility was labeled "Add and Remove Programs").

2) Download and run the "Java Uninstall tool" from (https://www.java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp). Then reboot.

3) Download and run Microsoft's "Windows Installer Cleanup Utility" from (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...stall-or/04ce4935-e950-4685-8e20-c0dc9b03c3d8). Then reboot.

4) Download and install the latest version of Java from (https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp). Be sure to DL the version that matches your version of Windows.

It might also be advisable to re-download and run OpenRocket from (https://openrocket.info/).

That worked! Thanks!

FYI- i had 4 java versions installed :) Also, #3 (windows installer cleanup utility) is deprecated by MS and no longer available.

So Glen, I've told you before that too much Java is bad for you... :D:D:p

"It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion."

So Glen was having problems with his OR. All the time here I am feeling smug that mine works fine...
Then a couple of days ago I tried using the OR on my laptop at the GF's house. No go... GRRRR what the .....
So I decide to do a little Java update and see what happens. Turns out my Java was gone... GRRRR again.
Maybe some goofy Windows update killed my Java? Anyhow, it works again. Yea!
