Great rail/rod soot remover

Thompson Center 13 bore cleaner for muzzleloading, black powder rifles.
Found it on Amazon & a local gun store.

50/50 water and muratic acid. Spray them down and wash off in about 3 minutes and they will look brand new. But I do use bore cleaner on reload cases at the field.

You really wont like the smell of muriatoc acid, wear a organic vapor/acid respirator muriatic aka hydrochloric acid is nasty stuff.

No smell to the Thompson bore cleaner---one of the great things about it

It works but its nasty stuff, even the non-chlorinated is nasty stuff.

When you are tired of the other methods requiring scrubbing, come back to the muriatic acid. It doesn't smell that bad, just do it outdoors. Spray on, wash off, put away.

I’ve had good luck with silicone spray, sprayed into a paper towel, then wiped onto the rod. It removes the soot and it lubes the rod.

Make sure to wash off the muriatic acid very well, otherwise it will keep eating if you get my drift! neutralizing the acid is important.
