Wife is taking up Banjo (that's right, BANJO), so she's getting a shiny new one for Christmas. Tried to talk her into a rocket...no go.

I don't know what I got my wife.
We decided years ago that to get what we really wanted we would buy our own gifts.

My wife pulled the dreaded "don't get me anything" move. We all know what that means! I did OK, hopefully. I guess I'll find out! ;)

I'm getting mine a new blender to replace the one she killed while trying to crush oreo cookies. Hey, she asked for it, so I shouldn't be quite in the mess that Sandman is!

As for what I'm getting, she's already told me: a framed picture of the two of us to put in my office. I asked for rocket stuff, or a gift card to Home Depot. And women get mad when we MEN can't take hints...

A bunch of books (all by authors she specified), a yoga bag, The 47 DVD extennded Return o the King (Who actually watches 12 hours o bonus features?). And her first model rocket. -> the 5" tall R2-D2. Hey she saw it said "I think that is cool."

As to the banjo...just think, it could be bagpipes!

Sad thing for Bow is, had I known his present's arrival would be a problem, I could have fixed it. I know a hobby shop about 10 minutes away with 2.

Ah well

The last time I bought my wife a rocket for her gift she hit me! No more, I let her pick out a painting for the bedroom.

I got mine a cell phone, which I gave to her Tuesday night (due to the snow storm that hit us Wednesday). Also, got her some dvd's she was wanting, and, some dress pants that she had been wanting (she ordered these her self).

She's already given me the best gift so far this year, she traded our mini van (which I really hated), for a Ford F150 XLT supercab :D It's not new, a 2000 model, but it was owned by an old man, who took very good care of it. I love it, I love it, I love it. I've missed having a pick up ever since I traded my last one for the mini van.

"who watches 12 hours of bonus features?"

I do!!! :D Ive already watched the normal version 21 times, the extended 3 times, extended with cast commentary twice, extended with director commentary once, and about half of Disk Appendix #1.

Youve made a good choice. Well, youve made a good choice, if your wife is a big-time die-hard Tolkien fan. You tell me. :D :p ;)

Married life sounds rather confusing...

...Bachelorhood... Hmmm....

;):D :p

Yep, I have 8 discs of Tolkein now (ext. editions of 1 & 2), and I'm picking up the third soon. I've watched all the features several times.

My girlfriend lost her younger sister to brain cancer this year. This is her first year without her sister. When my dad passed, my mother got us all a special ornament to hang on the tree that would remind us all of him every holiday season. I treasure that ornament more than anything else I own. I bought her a set of Lenox crystal angel ornaments to give to her family in remembrance of her sister.

Here my husband has a banjo he made when he was young and it sits. What I'd really like is a baritone so if/when my son moves up to tuba I can have it for *me*.

I have to say I am impressed by the thoughtfulness of many of the gifts you guys have come up with - crystal ornaments to give, gifts only us Tolkien obsessives could appreciate, books...nicely done gentlemen. :)

We downplay gift giving among the adults and to my knowledge I will be getting an subscription to Sky & Telescope magazine.

Yeah, but they were part of a mega-special offer and were dead cheap, so don't earn many brownie points! :D

That backyard screams modroc launches.

Congrats on joining the rest of us who will spend the rest of our lives paying for a house.

Now you gotta decide...Power tools or rockets.

A skilled north american male will figure out how to get both. That same drill press to make centering rings has a host of uses.

An admirable pursuit! What kind did you get her? I've had my gold series Earl Scruggs banjo for years....

Ya know, I actually have no clue. Wife went on a field trip with her instructor and other Banjo students to a "Banjo shack" in Maryland and picked it out herself. It does sound a *lot* better than the student banjo she'd been renting, though.

My wife lost her father this past May.
I got her Warren Zevon's last CD which has the song, "Keep Me In Your Heart". A beautiful song.

When he passed we got his truck, which has no CD player, so I also got her a CD player and new speakers for the truck, that way she can listen to the song in his truck.
