Full Solar Eclipse!!

Go and look out the moon at 10:30. there will be a full eclipse. The next one is in 2007.

Yea, one of the teachers (he's supposed to be the best physics teacher at the school, and he's my Integrated Science 10 teacher ) in the Science Department at my school made an entertaining clip about the eclipse. The clip is only 30 seconds long, and is worth the watch!

Last time, that's how it was here in FL... I think I saw maybe 10 minutes
during a break about 1/4 phase.


Tonight the view is perfect! I'm trying to grab photos every 5 minutes
or so. Hopefully, I can string them together into a panaramic-like sequence.

We'll see.

(gotta go get the next shot now).

amazes me cause in ny we dont ever get to see much, and call me crazy but all around the moon it was cloudy, yet there was one single clearing right around it... good luck eh?

Hey, the series was more important. We're going to have another eclipse in 2-3 years. Could be another 86 years before we have another WS win!

WoW! This came out much better than I expected!

These were taken with my handheld Cannon PowerShot S1 IS.
I set the camera to Manual, focused at Infinity and varied the f-stop/shutter
speed.

For the early and late shots when the moon was fuller, I was using about
1/125 down to 1/60 @ 3.1 or 3.4. For some the smaller cresents, I needed
to slow waaaay down to 1/25, 1/60, or 1/80. I'm really surprised
those even came out, but the Image Stabilzation did the job!

Afterwards, I selected the best in the series and strung them together
with <a href="https://www.gimp.org/">The GIMP</a> (a Linux[1] photo editor).

I didn't make much of an attempt to frame the moon, except to aim for the
center rectile. Because of this, some of the shots appear larger/smaller
in the panaramic. I attempted to have the moon follow a graceful curve
in the stiched together photo.

These result is completed unretouched, the only thing I did was
select the best exposure, and cut-n-paste into the full shot. I didn't
change any color balance or contrast.

The attachment is a 2/3 reduction to fit TRF upload restrictions. It really
doesn't do the shot justice...

That's my favorite (and most quoted) line from that movie. I use it anytime I do a home improvement project. (although I think the quote was "220, 221....whatever it takes")

I took some digital pictures last night too. I haven't put them on the computer yet to see how good/bad they turned out.

I went to check on the eclipse between innings last night. The clouds broke enough to make for good viewing.
