In a way I'm glad the evidence was not allowed - nobody is above the law. I agree that the defendant is an obvious nonce (allegedly ), but the copper should have gone through the proper channels to do what he did.
This does raise the point that all people in the chat room MUST consent to anybody recording the conversation. Its polite to ask, anyway, before logging the output.
I've worked out a way of logging the chat-room using a full IRC client. If I do log any chat session, I shall make sure everybody is agreed.
