Floyd Bennett Field?

Anyone from NYC here? Know anything about Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn?

Some friends say a park ranger told them rockets were illegal there, but looks like that would be a perfect place to get them to give an exemption so that city dwellers can get their rocketry fix.

Virtually every major city (and most smaller towns and cities) require some form of permit for Model Rocket launching in public parks because they knwo that it requires a large amount of space and they want to make sure that if they give permision to someone, that the permittee is aware of the NAR MRSC and will make sure that all other park patrons are not put in harms way.

They often require insurance and the easiest way to get that is to form an NAR Section.

Aren't NAR members covered by the insurance policy, regardless of whether or not they are in a Section and regardless of whether they are launching as part of a club event or as individuals? (As long as they launch in a manner that conforms to the MRSC?)

I was not clear enough.

Individual insurance only covers you if *YOU* get sued. A pre-condition of obtaining a permit in many, many cities and counties is that you provide *THEM* with insurance to cover them in case they get sued. "Them" = any or all of the usual land owners or gevernment agencies who own or manage the land/park: Parks Dept, City, County, US Army Corps of Engineers, etc.

The only way to get special insurance certificates that name these entities specifically is to form an NAR Section. Indiviuals cannot get the certificates.
