I reviewed the article by Tim at Apogee on flip out fins on a 2nd stage of a rocket, but would there be a way to set up flip out fins on the first stage rather than using clear fins on the first stage?

Anyone willing to share their thoughts on the "best" fin shape for a 46" x 3" BT model that is going to have flip out fins. I understand that the extension of the fin into the airstream is limited by the 3" BT, but what about the vertical length of the fin? It seems like I could make that length -- and contour -- whatever I would like. Anyone have any sample fin shapes that they would like to share to get me started? Bueller?

This is going to be a tube launch, so I want the fins to flip out once the rocket clears the tube. The Stage 1 engine should light once the rocket clears the tube and the fins have extended.
