I look forward to reading your ongoing report - I've considered building a FlatCat at some point.

I've built 4 Flat Cats over the years; the first one off GHS's original design in the HBOMR, the next 3 as MPC/Quest kits (slightly different in dihedral and single vs. double rudders.)

As Harry intended, it's an easy, basic build, but the glider flies real well; it was state of the art in the early 70s and still a good design today.

If you put a little time into sanding and trimming, you can still win B/G contests with Flat Cats. Even if you just bang it together, it's a fun flier. It's great for kids as a first B/G.

I wonder with Bill now on duty with Estes if we might see an Estes version of the Cat? I suppose there might have to be some minor name/design mods.

Although the Tercel already in the Estes lineup is pretty similar to the basic Flat Cat configuration.

I have built many from the original plans. Simple reason is after getting a good trim on them . I always lost them in flight. [IMG] I usually japanese tissued mine and used L hooks.

Very cool. It's a very neat glider design that has definitely withstood the test of time.
