Greetings, TRFers, it's been a while!! marcusSRG here...formally marvSRG. I've been inactive for over 6 years while I was in college and getting myself established thereafter and now I'm flying again. I just rejoined Tripoli and got this new TRF handle and I'm ready to talk rockets! Here's a little report about my recent flights and the great field I literally have in my back yard.

Last August my girlfriend and I moved into a new house in the Plaza/Midwood neighborhood just outside of uptown Charlotte. As soon as I moved in I knew the rockets were coming back out because our yard backed right up to a giant area of open land that was cleared for a neighborhood that was never built. Even better, this field is right next to a park with soccer and baseball fields. This is a rare find for a metro area like Charlotte and it's a GREAT field for low power and small mid power flights.

I'll also mention that I've been getting my HPR birds back out and I'm refurbishing my full-scale HV Arcas. I plan to get L1 and L2 with this bird in the same day at my local club, ROCC (Rocketry of Central Carolina) in the next few months.

Anyway, enjoy the videos linked below...and check that field out! Believe it or not it's about 2mi from the skyscrapers of beautiful center-city Charlotte!

"7x13", a BT-60 based 7x13mm cluster bird on (3) A10s and an A3. Chute stuck in the airframe but it landed safely...several successful flights since.

My clustered Estes Shadow "Naked Shadow IV" on a D12-3 and (2) C6's. Chute also stuck in this one and it sustained some damage. Rebuilt as "Electric Shadow," featuring dual deployment and a camera bay.

IQSY Tomahawk on E20-4W...look closely and watch the rocket go nearly horizontal and then "correct course" when the igniter wires and ignition leads fly with the rocket for about 6ft and then get torn free:

My Spool on an F20-4W:

"Electric Shadow" (same bird as above but rebuilt) on an E20-4W with DUAL DEPLOYMENT. I put my RRC2 (which was unused for over 6 years) in this one and had it dual-deploy to make sure the unit still worked properly. I deployed the main at apogee so the motor could pop it if the RRC2 failed, then had the unit blow a streamer at 300ft to verify that the main chute channel still worked...and it did! Because I used my heavy HPR shock cords and quick links and because of the RRC2, the bird was quite heavy and reached a mere 285ft so all the events happened nearly at once but came in nice succession...in the video you can clearly see the apogee charge deploy the main parachute, then you see the backup motor ejection go off and finally the "main" charge deploys the streamer. An "exploded view" of the Electric Shadow is below the video. Next flight will be on an F32T and some C6's with a video camera on board...gonna try and get a nice shot of uptown Charlotte!

Welcome back. Awesome field. Isn't it nice to have a field so close to house? All you have to do is basically pop out the back door and launch. At least you don't have to wait for the tide to go out, like I do. Again, welcome back to the sport and have many good days flying at your new field.

Check your PM box, I sent you a little something.

FYI folks it seems that the videos don't play well on phones so be aware. They look like crap on my phone (stretched and distorted but you can make it out ok) but they look fine when viewed on an actual computer from what I can tell.

Check your PM box, I sent you a little something.

I checked it, but couldn't send you a response b/c your PM box is full. Did you look at the vids on your phone? They look like crap on my old Droid Aly but look fine on a computer.

Inbox cleared. The code on the youtube vids was what was messed up originally, they look fine now. Nice Videos!
