I just completed my first AT reload. H180 in a 29/240 case, and am confident I did it correctly but ended up with this. Did I neglect something, or is this a part they include for a different motor? Thanks in advance.20230118_200337.jpg20230118_200329.jpg

It would say on the label if it was needed. Like this....

You were very smart to ask! Usually very bad to finish assembling a motor and have parts left over!

All correct. The FSD comes with the 29/240 case but only 3 reloads for that case require it.
They are the H220, H210 & H250.

When you do use one of these reloads and the FSD be sure to remember to extract the FSD when you empty the case of the burned stuff. Very easy to forget it is in there and throw it away (know one person that did this).

Edited Typo.... H180 does NOT require FSD. it is the H220 that does.

Edit: Don't follow this advice, see below reply's for more accurate advice.

The H180 DOES need the seal disk. I just flew one 2 weeks ago. The instructions that were included in the package were for the wrong case (29/60-180)! I have notified AT.

Please check your instructions to see if they are for the 29/240 case. If not you can see the correct instructions here.

You are right. I have the instructions for the 29/60-180. The label on the shipping tube does not include the seal disc in RMS hardware required. Confused.

OK I'm still confused.
Do I or do I not need the disc seal??
Don't want to tear down the motor if it's not needed. I seem to be getting conflicting info and sure don't want to fire off an unsafe motor.
Thanks All.

The only thing that kinda points to needing a seal disk is the generic 29/240 drawing. If that makes you feel nervous enough to not fly the motor in the face of the instructions and packaging, you should email Aerotech and ask directly.

The H180 assembly drawing does not show the seal disc, as opposed to the H210 drawing which clearly shows it.
The H180 does NOT require the seal disc. If the seal disc was required, you would also have the 1/16" x1 1/8" oring that goes on it.
@mundayr2 - Do NOT disassemble that motor. Fly it!

So waltr, your saying the H180 W motor requires this seal disc?
He probably meant the H220T. You can see on your reload tube that it's not in the list of hardware required for your H180W.

Correct. I listed the wrong reload---- Above post fixed.

It is the H210, H220 & H250 in the 29-240 case that require the FSD.
The H97 & H180 does NOT need the FSD.

Sorry for the confusion.

that's the generic 29/240 drawing,

I was definitely wrong on this one. I did use the generic ones. I was in the field and grabbed the first resource on ATs website. I would follow what jamsterj posted which are specific to the H180W. I would not recommend going against the specific instructions, but luckily mine did burn fine.

One thing to note... whenever you DO fly a motor that needs the seal disc, BE CAREFUL that you don't mistakenly throw it out when you clean the motor case out! It's easier to absent-mindedly throw those out than you would think.

Thanks for all the info here!
I have emailed, and posted on the Aerotech Open Thread this question also. So in the meantime I am not going to disassemble unless AT tells me to do so. BTW Apogee wasn't able to definitely answer this question either.
