Quick question. I am drawing a fin jig for an Estes Hi Flyer.

BT-20 with three fins. I measured the fin thickness with a cheap micrometer and got 1/16". Is that correct?

I printed out the template with 1/16" thick fins but it seems awfully thin!

Thanks.

once you get a layer or three of paint* on them they get stronger, 1/16" works fine, just get the grain paralelel to the leading edge of the fins.
*or paper.

I painted the entire rocket with 20minute finishing resin thinned with acetone. Soaks into the balsa pretty well. You do have to do a little sanding to get a good finish, but the fins are strong.
