The rocket received its final coat of satin white and I also detailed the escape tower in black and touch up red. The capsule was detailed in silver and red. It’s coming along quite nicely! I can’t wait to launch this rocket!

Beautiful work. I'd hate to see that launch tower destroyed on a hard landing. I have said this before on other threads: Don't fly that capsule.
I 3D printed this just for flying. Save the kit capsule for display only.
My MR has suffered more than one bad landings and that launch tower is fragile.

I would recommend you invest in some kevlar thread. Super strong and (almost) burn proof:

the 100lb is a bit more than "thread" diameter. the 350lb is more similar to heavy cotton string diameter.
I've used the 100# for things like that capsule rig, as well as home made parachute cords, etc.
the heavier thread is good for other things like shock cords but is too thick to fit between a shoulder and body tube.

I could have used that to preserve my tower.
Bigger failure though a few years back was the BP E (upgraded MMT) motor that blew-out the forward bulkhead of the motor at about 30'.
It torched the guts of the rocket but the external view is still presentable.
I still have the parts, hoping the repair to at least flyable again.
It did fly sweetly on prior E motors though.

The Estes K-41 kit mounts the shock cord at the neck of the capsule, for the crazy difficult & fragile wood stick tower, and it balances with the tower slightly up, simlar to Chris' tether, and comes down on a separate chute. I used the 100# kevlar from Apogee, it's a nice fine braid, and on it's first flight, it worked great.

Well after months of crap weather in Northern California today was beautiful for painting. Today I did a gloss clear coat on the Redstone to prepare it for decals. Before I learned decals DON’T stick well to satin finishes I sprayed the rocket with satins thus the need for gloss clear. I’ll let the clear cure for about a week and install the decals followed by a few days for the decals to set then shoot with a matte clear. Getting there!

Got the decals on the Estes Mercury Redstone rocket today. Planning on shooting entire rocket with a matte clear on Thursday weather permitting. Still need to install both parachutes.

Looks awesome! Have a nice first flight. Mine does fine so far though the escape tower is often a bit loose after landing.
Nice work. I’m into scale. My Redstone has flown twice with no damage. Hope your first flight goes well.
