I am building these two kits for my brother to launch. The build is basic right out of the bag with no changes. Put together with Elmers Glue All and used Elmers Glue All for the fillets. I brushed on 4 coats of Aerogloss sealer and sprayed the red and yellow old Krylon with no primer. I no this is how models used to be painted and with the no recoat window it is pretty easy. Ok the Chris Model Rocket Blog he has a couple of old builds from the 70s that look great and were never primed. Without primer you really have to build clean that's for sure. Also the weight difference is definitely noticed between primed and unprimed of course unprimed being much lighter. The finished Der Red Max and Goblin are heavier than the two I am building right now. I am painting as per the vintage instructions, light coats with sanding in between, of course with old Krylon this makes it possible. By the way Krylon industrial is still making the old formula paints just under new name, Krylon Acrylic-Quik. The pictures of the Centuri rocket are from Chris website that were built back in the 70s and not using primer.
