Is the Acorn basically the same kit as an Estes fatboy? They seem like they are almost the same kit. I heard the Acorn has a balsa nose but if it's otherwise the same kit I'll consider building one instead of finding all the parts to build a fatboy.

Thanks for any feedback!

I have both. They're both short, stubby BT-80 rockets, so they're similar, but they're not the same.

The Acorn has four fins versus the Fat Boy's three. The Acorn fins are smaller.

The Acorn does have a balsa cone, but is similar to the plastic cone on the Fat Boy. I didn't break out the micrometer, so I can't say if it's the same shape, but it's close.

Performance is similar.

Thanks, sounds like the Acorn is a good alternative to the fatboy. Are the BT's and whole rockets about the same length?

Here's a liftoff shot of my Acorn at NARAM 56 from Chris Taylor's NARAM Live site.
