Estes Eliminator

I have several unbuilt old Estes Eliminator kits. They have purple BT-56 tubes, yellow nose cones, and yellow plastic fin cans.

Except one. One of them has a BLACK plastic fin can.

Is this unusual?

The black fin can is probably a leftover part from the previous use of the fin can mold.
That was the two-stage Longshot kit (#2128).
Either your Eliminator kit was a very early production model or Estes was trying to use up some left over inventory of the black fin cans.
