I've got one of those:)
Had at least one in the flying fleet since the dark ages LOL! Great flying models.
I think after loosing #1 in the 70's I fly them all on Streamers now rather then the 12" chute it came with. I know the current fleet Green Skyhook has a 1-1/2" x 30" Orange crepe paper streamer.

This was my repro of the first Sky Hook I made for an Estes Craftsmanship Contest around 1972.

The balsa was filled with Carpenter's Wood Filler and stained with Walnut stain.
The lettering was taken from an old Letraset rub-on lettering sheet, from the same sheet I used back in 1972!

In the 1972 contest you sent the model to Estes for judging. They kept the models.
If I remember right, it took a third place.

At the 1975 NARAM I asked Dane Boles whatever happened to those models. I explained it was white with walnut stained, clear finish fins.
He told me my Sky Hook was in Vern Estes office.
I don't know if that was true or not, but I felt better thinking it had a good home.

I like that alot. Particularly how the white trim on the fins accentuates the subtle angle on the leading edge.

I built a 2.6 inch upscale of the Astron Skyhook over the past couple of weeks. I used BT80 tubes and Estes nose cone & coupler. The fins are 1/8" plywood with 4.1 oz. carbon and 1.5 oz. fiberglass skins. I wanted to make them strong since they are always going to land first. I still need to pick a parachute and install the 38mm retainer when that shows up. This was a fun project. I'm looking forward to flying it!
